I just got Big Red (1112-2 Custom Balladeer - 1976) back from John and the Boys!

When this guitar arrived, the "Crack Curse" was in full swing, and it arrived with 5 very long nasty cracks in it.
You all told me to "talk to John", I talked to John, and he said he could fix it for me, and by Jacob! HE DID!!!!

Big Red is safe, and sound, and GORGEOUS!!!!! She is so shiny and beautiful, it looks like the day she came out of the Factory back in 1976!!!

Absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! This Ovation is 39 years old, and looks, and sounds, as good if not better, than the day she was made!!!

39 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!

THANK YOU John and the Boys, and Thank You for the prayers for a safe delivery, and un-casing!!! So Far, So Good!!!

I am one VERY Happy Camper!!!!! God, I hope DW keeps these boys, they know their stuff!

That's a nice looking guitar!

Do you have any before pics of the cracks?
I'm gaining interest in old Ovations and have seen several with cracks, I'm curious what can / can't be repaired (without dropping tons of money)...

Thanks and congrats!

Wow! naellis58, that color is to die for! I know cows aren't holy, but Holy Cow, that is a nice guitar! John Budny and Co. do it again! I pray that whatever plans DW has it includes them. Just awesome!

Speaks very well for John and crew...turn around of repairs seems to be very reasonable while, as expected, quality is excellent.

Very nice. It would be good if John and crew could post here now and then about their shop, maybe even a photo or two. So many of us have used their services a time or two and consider them friends.

I am just thrilled at the Customer Service they provided!

I have dealt with so many Customer Service reps and shops, and the word 'Service' is a total misnomer! But you guys all spoke so highly about John and the guys. And right from the get-go John was right on the ball answering my questions within an hour, assuring me of their diligence and expertise, and even soothing over-protective, excitable-person nerves with his calmness, and assurance that they would take the Best care of my Baby. And he came through!!! I thought that it would take months, maybe 6 to get it back, but it was just under 30 days! I am so Impressed!

My Custom Nakao Clone is with John now having a facelift and beauty mark added, and I have no doubt what-so-ever that it will come back as Beautiful if not more, than it ever was! I like too, that he didn't do a rush, put it through, get rid of it, job on Big Red - which is a more inexpensive guitar, he treated her just like an Adamas or my Custom! THAT is what I like to see too! He knows what each piece means to us, and treats it like it is a Fine Treasure.

I am SO hoping that DW has a Custom Shop - I would LOVE to throw something really fun and unusual at John and the Boys, and have them create my Dream Guitar! BTW, how does Black Walnut work as a face for sound????

Claro walnut will make your jaw go slack, visually and acoustically.

And BTW, that's a very nice bird you've resurrected.

Oooooooooooh Myyyyyyyyyyyyy....

Oooooooooooh Myyyyyyyyyyyyy....

Patch?? Is that a Custom that you had made? Good Grief! that is GORGEOUS!!!!
Love the pattern, the color, the depth, and the Custom Legend Bling!!
You have a very unique, and beautiful Collection! So many gorgeous woods!!
I have never heard of that Walnut, but Boy Howdy! is it Pretty!!!!

Good Lord Patch that is Gorgeous!! Thank You for sharing!!

Oooooooooooh Myyyyyyyyyyyyy........

I will have to get a Picture of Big Red and her year younger sister together. I do love the 70's Custom Balladeers, and Red is my Favorite Color. I got them at a really, really great price. The '76 arrived with horrible cracks, and went to John. Then I found her Sister ('77) on ebay for $249, and she only has a 3/4" scratch (not crack) in it! Plays and sounds just like I like them!!! I saw another one on ebay a week or two ago, looked in great condition for $159. And someone grabbed that one!

Hi SpeedingPenguin!

No, I am sorry, I didn't take any pictures... But there were 5 long cracks, one in each quandrant running down towards the bottom, and the 5th running down from below the bridge towards the bottom. The Seller had packed this one really well, but I think she got some really rough handling during shipping to get that many cracks. I was absolutely broken hearted, the Seller said that it had been in the case since buying, and there was not a mark on it, and the coloring was so beautiful, so I was crushed to open the case and see those cracks. But John and Boys brought her back to her Former Glory for me!

If you do discover a way to fix cracks, please share, I have so many with cracks here, and I would like to learn to do it myself too!!

DW is expert with exotic woods. The drumset they just finished for Neil Peart (RUSH) is made out of 1,500 year old reclaimed Romanian river logs. They've also used reclaimed Lake Superior Birch and every exotic wood from around the globe in their never ending quest.

Their expertise in the use of exotic woods and custom manufacturing is without equal. These ultra high end drumsets drive the rest of the lineup and create tons on interest in the brand.

Buckle your seat belts. Patch is going to love these guys...fingers crossed here.

BTW Nancy, big red looks great.

HOLY BUCKETS BATMAN!!!!!!

I think the Member who said that O needs a "Designed By Patch" line, is right on the money!!!! You have an incredible imagination for unique and beautiful that look World Class, and sound just as good!!! Quite a Talent!

I would love to see an *Connoisseur Custom* line that uses Specialty Woods, guitars that are unique, personal, and custom hand picked woods that would let each person express their creativity, and let their dream become a reality! I would LOVE to see what you come up with with an unlimited palette at your command!!! You have incredible taste!

I WANT THIS GUITAR!!!!!!! And I am so glad that you had the plastic TRC changed to a carved wood! That was my only brow raiser when I first looked at the picture posted above, the carved TRC was the crowing accent, just perfect! (That is actually what I am having John add as a beauty mark to my Nakao Clone - it needed the balance of a TRC to match the bridge)

I saw this beauty down at service when I was dropping my Adamas off for a face lift and that thing stood out. It looked awesome, that's a great unique color. The finish work they do is second to none. Those guys all Rock.

The walnut 12string is the most beautiful Ovation guitar ever made.
But the red one is within my top 10. Congratulations.

And I was also highly surprised when I got my restored ´82 collector´s back from John Budny. I had not expected such a shiny and easy playing guitar made from scrap. These people are incredible.
