Location: Nashville TN. | The staff at the nursing home where my mother is asked me to play there.
Any one ever do these and is there anything to know about playing the elderly in ill health?
My mother has liver cancer, days are very short. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm with Paul. My niece was "entertainment director" at a nursing home for awhile. They appreciate anything, but it may be very difficult to get cooperation. I volunteered to play, but she never took me seriously and now has another job. |

A lot of older folks like the old hymns, Amazing Grace, In the Garden etc. Maybe some of the songs popular back t\in the late 40's or early 50's.
This time of year any of the Christmas standards will be good.

Location: Minden, Nebraska | I play guitar for a scaled down church service I conduct every month at the local Care Center. People do love to hear the music, and they will sing if they know the words. In my context, I use older familiar hymns. But any music they know will be especially loved. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Just something to think about... Those "Old Folks" ain't that much older than some of us.
I often work at a Senior Community, with people from 60's to 80's...
They are just like you and me... Just alittle pissed-off that this weird thing has happened to their body!
In their mind, "Not-too-long-ago I was cruising in my '57 Chevy, listening to that new music from England... And that Indian motorcycle sure was nice!"
Ask the folks what is some of their favorite music, you may be surprised.
Anything from Ernest Tubb or Hank Williams, to Steppenwolf. |
