Ok, another alternative to the bling-blingy 1619 is the merely blingy 10th Anniversary 1657 (Custom Legend style neck, carved bridge & TRC, but no abalone purfling). This one differs from all other O's I've played in that it has a cedar top, so I expect the tone to be warmer.

Anyone have experience with/opinions on this particular model?

I didn't think the tops were cedar. They have a bit of a red finish, but I thought they were spruce. If they're cedar, I'd buy one, but otherwise, they seem very close to the Custom Legends.

The Anniversary and the Patriot are both a Custom Legend w/o all of the inlaids...deep bowl, A brace, AAA spruce, etc.

I have been very impressed with the 1657...helped my Acadian cousin (Paul) get one and had one for a short time before sending it to Norseman.

Beautiful finish...not sure what you would call it but I used brown and orange to match it when I was fixing a couple of finish cracks. I have a 1658 Custom Legend 12-str with the same finish...must have been a custom finish as the 1658 came in natural or dark sunburst.

It matched the superior qualities of the 1619.

Mark, you're right. I was going by a description for one at GC in Minn (should know better than to trust anything said by anyone at GC). Ovation's site most definitely describes it as hand-picked Sitka spruce. The reddish-brown finish is what probably fooled the know-nothing at GC that wrote the listing.

By coincidence, there's also a Patriot available at a GC in SF , at what seems a really good price for what I've seen other Patriots going for.

The 1657's were great guitars. Actually the REISSUE was in my opinion even better, with the new style neck and attachment. I probably should have not let that one go. The A bracing is excellent.

Dave - do you think then that this one\'s a Reissue? The listing claims it's from the mid-90's, but then again it claims it has a cedar top.

Don't believe there was a reissue of the Anniversary...Dave may have been referring to the Legend Ltd (Lennon) or the 2004 30th Anniv CL.

Ah, yes Tony is right. I was thinking of the 1651. THAT'S a killer guitar, not the 1657.

I really like mine. I think $650 is a little high priced, though. Not that they aren't worth it, they just don't usually go that high. They pop up on evilbay pretty often. I'm thinking $400-500 would be about the norm. Also it shows a 3 star condition. Might be able to find one in better shape, too. Just my $002.5
