Joined: November 2014 Posts: 40 | I have been released from the welcome center holding pen ... so I will re-post my question here I found a really nice American made Elite T on Ebay and picked it up for $450. I gave it to my 16 year old son. He played it for about a month. A wonderful sounding guitar with amazing projection. Last Sunday he was awoken in the middle of the night by a loud noise and eventually notices that the Elite T has cracked from the bridge to the bottom edge. Its not even a crack ... it is a straight up break. Last year I had John Budny re-finish the top of my Custom Legend at the late great mothership. However, I don't think that this guitar from a financial perspective is worth fixing (I already purchased an American made Balladeer as a replacement). So here is the question ... Is there a good market for parts if I break this guitar down and sell the pieces?

Or do you have central heat? You need a humidifier. As to parts... Neck might get you a hundred bucks, depending on if the tuners are included. Tuners by themselves, $25 to $50. Preamp might get you a hundred bucks, with the can. Saddle might get you $25. But I would include the saddle and the output jack with the preamp. Check eBay sold listings... "Ovation" under Musical Instruments & Gear>Guitar>Parts & Accessories>Guitar Parts I would still just fix it. Go to the Bottom Feeding Luthiery Guild section and read around. Also search YouTube and Stewart MacDonald.

I really wondering if it was stressed during shipment. Its hard to say. We were using light gauge strings and the guitar was in drop tuning at the time.

I shipped a guitar in the winter once and, although it was fairly cold here, it was really cold in Milwaukee when it got there. I should have warned the buyer not to open the case right away when it got there. Anyway, it split from the bridge to the base. It was almost 40 years old and had some small finish cracks, but the big one wasn't there when I sent it.

You should keep your house or at least the room with the guitars at about 30% to 50% humidity. Stability is more important than the absolute value of the humidity, but anything below about 20% is really going to stress the guitar.

Joined: November 2014 Posts: 40 | I just noticed that the back of the neck also has a small crack in it as well! I'm wondering if this was part of the failure mechanism? Anyway that second failure/defect settles it (and pacifies a guilty conscience) ... I'm going to break it down and sell parts. Tuners, saddle and electronics. Flash1717legend ....If you are interested I will ship you neck and tuners but will only charge for tuners. FLYSig ... I'm happy to sell the Saddle. My email is philipakitching@live.com.

I was able to disassemble the guitar cleanly. The guitar case, neck and tuners already have a home. Bowl, Saddle, OP30 electronics, wiring and transducer are still available
