Location: Alberta, Canada | Sorry. I know this has been hashed to death, but I don't do well with the search button.
When adjusting the rod which direction does what? When viewed from the bridge side, which way do I move it to gain a dip as apposed to a hump in the neck?
I removed all the shims and am getting some buzz, so I turned it counter clockwise a 1/8 of a turn but it does not seem any better. Did I turn it the right way and need to go more or am I going the wrong way? |

Always do the adjusting in quarter turn increments! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | But what happens to the neck when you tighten it, Mike? I think that's the question that I can't remember the answer to. I have to refer to an Ovation manual to figure it out. I need pictures. |

Location: Alberta, Canada | Sorry guys, I should have been a little more specific in my original post. SWMBO was calling me to the table for supper and I was rushing to get done.
OK, my CB is adjusted by Allen wrench thru the sound hole. I just tried turning it to the right and it got much worse, so have readjusted it to the left and I'm starting to make progress. Will let it set a day or so and give it a little more and it should be good, I hope.
I had checked my manual and it gives the method for guitars with the truss rod cover and it had me confused.

When you tighten, it pulls the neck back against the string tension, lowering the string height...
But only in relation to the fretboard itself.
If you capo the first fret, and finger the twelfth, tightening will reduce the distance between the string and the frets when measured around the fifth and sixth frets. okay? :confused:
Loosening will increase that distance.
And of course, righty-tighty, lefty-loosy!

Location: Scotland | A truss-rod can only correct rattles in the lower fret positions, up to the 6th or mybe 7th frets. If you are getting fret rattle higher than that you need to replace a shim, or take your guitar to a tech for a pro fret-dress. |

This is the same thing that used to confuse me too until I had it explained by a luthier exactly how a truss rod works.

Another problem that I've run into on at least a couple Adamii in the lower frets is of the nut slots being to shallow, making too strong of a string angle to the first fret and resulting in the need for more pressure than should necessary.
Easily fixed but nonetheless an area often overlooked. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Thanks, Tim. Did you do that yourself? I never thought of a trussrod moving the peghead up or down, but I guess it makes sense. It's probably more the strings moving it up and the trussrod moving it down. |
