Talked to the current owner, it supposedly has some provenance with a well known Country Artist who has a few brothers that perform with him, and was custom built for him in '85... could be BS, but....

already talked to Kim at the mothership about this one...when I put in my initial bid and it will be immediately going up for a neck reset...seller says it's at 3/8 at the 12th and the saddle is buried in the bridge... other than that I've been told there's no other issues with the guitar, Kim also said he has a shallow Elite classical and that I should be surprised and pleased with how they play and sound.

anyway.... for a 22 year old custom built with Abalone and in a -6P finish including neck and headstock with no cracks or chips for $388+40 shipping... the neck reset will be about $250 maybe less... add $90 for shipping both ways to Hartford.... $768 for a custom built restored to it's glory by the guys/gals at Ovation is a bargain in my book.

and if it was built for and played by LG...all the better... I'll take all the mojo I can sponge out of it... I need it

1985 custom built shallow bowl elite classical

Happy Holidays all!

Glenn

Nice grab, that one also caught my eye. That is one unique Ovation.

Congrats Glenn,

It's a very nice Ovation and a great deal.
I was watching this guitar but I was afraid by the action of the neck...
I'm anxious to see it after the neck reset!!

J :)

I was watching it too: and I also talked to the seller:
it originally belonged to country music star Larry Gatlin; he gave it to his soundman who sold it to me along with a bunch of stuff...the neck joint is the culprit here: there is actually a gap of over 1/4 of an inch from the heel to the body: that is why there is such high action: the neck is not warped or twisted: just the gap in the heel joint to body. Not sure what caused that...
Congrats Glenn...

Isn't that a bolt on neck like my 1681 was? It might just be a matter of tightening the bolt.

I'm hoping for the best... and that it won't go too far over my estimates for repair, but it will have whatever repairs it needs taken care of by John and crew.. and whatever tweaks they deem necessary.

it deserves to be restored.

and it can't cost me much more than the ones I already have up there are.

I was willing to go as high $460 on the guitar, knowing that the repairs might go that high as well... so this wasn't blindly done.

I like it. they'll fix it, and it will be as good as new... or as close as they can get, which is usually Outstanding..

I guess that's all that matters in the long run.

Thanks All!

Glenn

seller received payment, shipping out by Wed, I spoke with John at the mothership today about this one and my other babies in rehab, and to locate some replacement parts in Black for my 6591(Thanks John!)

anyway, not a good sign or bad sign, but this one has never been up for repairs, evaluation, or registered... he's seen the pictures and been given the description of the issues with the neck, and feels that it shouldn't be a problem, and they'll

"make it right again".

so I'll be sending this one up after the holiday shut-down.

Best Service on the Planet! many thanks to John, Kim, and all the fine craftsmen and people at Ovation.

Glenn

Congrats, Glenn!

i am sure this will turn out to be a great guitar. I absolutely love the white slothead and the mix of abalone and the white top.

Merry Christmas,
Kurt
