Hi, I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't seem to find an answer on the web. Can someone point me to a simple description of the advantages/disadvantages of the various bracing styles? Or, do I really even need to worry about this?

I owned an Applause AA-24 in high school back in the 70s and haven't played for about 20 years. (I sold that one to a friend but he won't part with it even though he has much more expensive guitars because he say it still sounds the best). So I'm really a beginner all over. I have been playing my wifes Guild or my son's Fender, both of which are really nice, but I still miss my round back and I'd like to get an Ovation so we can all play together.

I can't have my high school hair but at least I can have my guitar ....

Thanks for your help,
Scott

There are regulars on this board that have strong opinions on this. They must be at lunch. I think they didn't like the VT bracing, but liked the A and X or modified X. I can't remember where fan bracing fits in there.
Do a search in the archives for bracing and see what you come up with.

Buy yourself a nice roundback and don't worry about it. Yes, some of use have strong opinions of this one or that one but in the end it's just monkeys arguing the pros and cons of bananas. Whatever you buy will be a welcome improvement compared to where you are now.

click here and then click Reference in the left menu and then Bracing Patterns et voila! This is actually Dave's site but he's far to modest to push it ;-)

I will leave to others the subjective part of which are good or not. And anyway that is just one factor in choosing your new pet no less important than picking through about 20 other critical characteristics :-)

Another really cool Ovation/Adamas 'porn' site is

Aha, I figured out how to search archives and there's lots of info there and some nice drawings showing the difference b/w them. Most seem to agree with Mark's synopsis. Thanks guys!

I am always surprised if I remember anything correctly. I do know that Chaquita bananas are the best. I saw an ad that told me that, so it must be true.
