...but, I couldn't resist this one. A 2007 USA made Strat Hwy 1 burst finish in 9.9 condition, with Fender hard case, Korg electronic tuner, Korg electronic metronome, some tools, all case candy, small Marshall amp, (also like new) cable, strap, etc... for...

$350.00

Here's a couple of pics. And, yes, it does have a whammy bar. Sadly, the Tele is gone now.

Good deal, plus the condition of the guitar adds a premium. Strats can be lousy or really nice. I have three US models. Two are wall hangers, one is an absolute keeper. If you want it to really sing, change out the pickups for Texas Specials.

I really don't know much about the different usa made ones. I know this one goes for about 750.00 discounted at AMS.

According to the literature, the Highway 1 uses the American Series neck and body with hardware and electronics from Mexico. Highway 1 connects Mexico with California, the locations of the two Fender Strat plants, and therefore, the Highway 1 designation (so I was once told). If nothing else, it makes for good copy and the name has a nice ring to it.

Ah Prof., I bow to your knowledge of Fender products. This one is a great player, much better than the Mex Tele next to it in the pic. I always did like the Strat design better anyway.

A buddy of mine bought a new Highway 1 a year ago and its a decent guitar. He paid about $600 for it. It does have American pickups, Texas Specials, I believe, but definately not the cheap pickups that come on the Mexican made Strats. I don't know about the switch and pots or the other hardware though.

They have the large headstock of the seventies, the old style bridge, but a four bolt neck. They also have the two string trees on the headstock, which I hate. If you want it to sound more like a Strat should, don't run the D and G strings under the tree, just straight from the nut to the tuner.

In my opinion the seventies strats got a bad reputation because of that second string tree that they added, not because of any problem with the three bolt neck. But that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

That is quite a steal though, congratulations!

I enjoy my Highway One 3TS. Its OK, but I think Id prefer a HH guitar better, with my old metal roots influence. Its almost identical to yours except I have the rosewood fretboard. Oh yeah, and mine was $700 with HSC. You got an absolute steal. GC recently had a blowout on the Honey Blond HWY1's for $400 something. Not sure why, but the rest of the colors were full price.

Joyful Noise. So the strings tree will really make that much difference in the sound?

Also Trader Jim ,

Not sure, but the Highway one went through an "upgrade" in 2005 I believe. Hotter Pickups and the 70's headstock. I noticed your looks to have the regular strat headstock. Is your prior to 2005?

I was astounded how much difference it made. I had played that guitar for 20 years, then one day I was using the tremelo and couldn't keep the g string in tune, so I just pushed down on the d and g strings and slid them out from under the tree. It solved the tremelo problem right away and very guickly I started to realize how much more it sounded like a traditional Strat, to my ears anyway. The tree is still there, I didn't want to leave a hole in the headstock, but I haven't used it since. I don't have a clue why they ever added it in the first place.

Yak, The original ad for this one said it was an 07 but when I checked the serial number on the Fender site, it shows to be an 05.
