I have a deluxe with no trees, a 50th Anniv with one tree, and the '99 TS with double trees, and I prefer the '99. I'll have to disconnect the strings from the trees and see if I notice the same difference that you did. Thanks for the tip. |

Location: GA USA | I was on the verge of going with a Hwy 1 when I got the Deacon. I don't think they had the sunburst then, or I might have taken the dark path and not ended up here. A burst with maple is just what I would have wanted.
I used to have an American Standard Strat. Someday I'd like another. |

Location: South of most, North of few | Yeah, I had an all maple Strat with maple fretboard and white pick guard back when they were only made in USA, for a while, but really didn't know how to play at the time. (no snide remarks) I loved the look and feel of that guitar. I guess that's why I gravitated to this one. I'm going to try the string tree thing too although I really don't see how it would affect the sound being as it is after the nut. Just gives it a little less break angle on the nut if you take them off. |

My Friend Otto and I both think the HWY 1 guitars have "Tex-Mex" pickups, not "Texas Specials". Still a smokin' deal for a USA Strat. Personally. I don't care for the big headstocks. |

I still prefer this one with Texas Specials. The body is finished in a translucent wash because the grain of the ash comes through very well.  |

Without using that one tree it just feels more natural and improves playability. But beyond that, I think it does change the tone a little when doing pull-offs to an open string or when just playing open chords in the first couple of frets, or when using the tremelo. Maybe its just in my own head, but it just sounds more like a Strat should to me, and the G string especially stays in tune better. |

Yes, that's the ticket! The natural grain Strats are my favorite. I like the natural wood finishes tone. I've seen those with the fretboard in natural as well.. |
