| While bitten by the Ovation bug (wife has an '74 1121-4 on layaway for a late bday gift), I was surfing the bay and found what I call off the top of my head, a matching 12 string. Except this one is the 1655 model with nicer inlays, AND it looks like someone tweaked it, into s-t-e-r-e-o output.
The headstock has a scratch in the finish, and the tip end where the O is, looks like it's been shot off a bit, but I'm looking for a player, not a show piece. Came with OHSC for $250, so being unfamiliar with all the variations, I'm hoping this was a bargain.
Anyone here familiar with this model? It's a beautiful natural finish. Oh, and shouldn't the strings be installed as on a 12 string RIC? Dominant than octave, rather than octave then dominant?
One last thing: it's missing the volume knob. Any idea where to score another one of these, preferably also vintage (used)?

The 1655 is a nice guitar. I bought mine from Patch here on OFC. $250 with OHSC is a good price.
The manner of stringing that the 12-string RIC uses is non-standard. Standard is octave, then dominant.
I did make a new bridge to restring my 1655 in RIC-fashion and I liked it. But, then I tried to adjust the action height at the nut and screwed it up and caused the octave strings to be dull-sounding. I went back to the standard nut. When I get ready to restring it, I may make a new nut and have another go at the RIC manner. Overall, I liked how it sounds.

Yes, it needs a stacked Volume/Tone knob.
If you want to string it "Ric" style you will need to change the nut... or cut the nut.
Otherwise, the "Normal" way to string a 12 is with the octave on top.

Or you could go GENERIC
I am not positive these would work, but they have set-screws... so they may be kinda adjustable.

| Well, the seller of the 1655-4 12 renigged on selling me the guitar, even though I was the winning and only bidder!
So, I'm watching a 1615-4 12. The price is slightly lower including shipping, and the case is much nicer. This one
seems to be a slothead (whatever difference that makes), has a simpler inlay, but from the pics seems to have a
cedar top, rather than spruce.
Is that correct? I was hoping for one to match the 6-er, am I wrong, and the patina has just darkened?

For example if it was sold privately for a higher price the seller may owe you the difference between your winning bid and his private sale .... |

Location: Texas | "patina has just darkened" If it is one from the 70's it is a good bet that the soundboard has darkened from the original spruce color. I think those soundboads look great with age. |

According to the serial number, it's a '78. The '74 wifey has in layaway, still looks like usual.
Is there any huge difference between the 2, other than the inlays and peg head?

Location: Texas | Itll never happen on eBay. They cover the sellers butt on everything, regardless of the reason. Their revs come from sellers, therefore, they do little to sanction the folks that keep them churning green. If you actually won the auction, you can leave a neg. |

eBay always sides with the Buyer on a dispute.
eBay gets their money from Buyers. Sellers can be replaced.
BUT! You cannot force someone to sell an item if they don't want to sell.
Rolleijoe... Your guitar has been relisted.
If you have already paid, you can file an "Item Not Received" claim.
Go to the bottom of any eBay page and click "Resolution Center"
When you get there click "I haven't received my item yet".
Click "Continue" and choose your item on the next page.
Follow the directions from there...
But like I said, that won't make the Seller send you the item.
Instead, you can still leave the guy a Red Ball Negative Feedback saying that he refused to sell you the item for the price that you won it at.
I would leave the Negative Feedback NOW. 
He has already relisted the item.
But still go through the Resolution Center deal. Then he will have the claim on his record.
That won't do You any good, but it might help the next person.

Location: Lake Forest, CA | If an ebay seller did to me what he did to you, I'd send the seller a 'nice' message indicating that there's no way I would ever bid on any of his items again and that I've informed the Ovation community to be on the lookout for him/her and to avoid doing business with him/her. In short, that he's been black-balled.
I would also leave a negative feedback with a note saying you won the auction, but that be backed-out, then re-listed the item.

Studying utube for sound samples, and google for info, it seems Jeff Lynne & Brian May both used a 1615. But the sound samples make the 1655 sound better. What's the consensus on best recorded sound?

The feedback box allows for up to 80 characters. The following line has 70 characters: 'I won the auction, but the seller backed-out, then re-listed the item.'
This line takes 79 characters, including punctuation: 'I won the previous auction, but the seller backed-out, then re-listed the item.'
