All that follows at one point was NOW, but presently might as well be Civil War-era: cassettes and players (don't even start on 8-track!), vinyl LP & cover art, bands that age with you, cool nonsense lyrics, bombastic faux -classical prog-rock, headshops, MIA-POW memorials, (for me, a CA native: "righteous" "far out" "right on" "gnarly" etc. but NOT "like" and "awesome" or any trailer-English) one/two good FM ecclectic stations, LP-oriented, with stony DJs (might play some Coltrane, then some Floyd, maybe some Waylon or Willie), a few TV stations (color TV optional), thinking and READING was the best way to travel, The Dead had not gone to Europe yet with their "Wall of Sound": they were fresh and inspired, Rolling Stone was a newsprint "foldie", Paul was dead... I think. Your music DEFINED you in every way because it was evolving in a clear, coherent and vivd manner right along with you, month by month, album by album, song by song, concert by concert, band by band, genre by genre!

That was Groucho. He described old pretty well.
Here's another one:

"I'm going to Iowa for an award. Then I'm appearing at Carnegie Hall, it's sold out. Then I'm sailing to France to be honored by the French government. I'd give it all up for one erection."

Driving... And you are telling that Old Fart to move his butt, and you realize that 'Old Fart' is your age.

Just saw a news clip about Eddie Van Halen's house getting Mud-slid...
The kid is 52 years-old! [And looks worse than me, I might add...]

Realizing that all of Led Zep is dancing around 60...

Hey, but 50 is the new 30!
[51 is the new 29!]

You know you're getting old when you start spending half your time at a doctor's office, and the other half is spent going to the bathroom. ... And when you walk out of the doctor's office feeling like you just spent the weekend in prison with Bubba.
