His private problems may have made him a despicable human being but it makes no difference to his music or his achievements and his legacy.
Nobody ever wrote many kind words about Beethoven, Vivaldi got into some questionable situations when he was Music Master at a girl's school/institution. How many great artists were mad, gay, murderous, and who knows what else? Whatever Da Vinci or Bach did in their private lives doesn't alter the sheer genius of what they did. Remeber Jerry Lee and his 13/14 year old bride. Remember Chuck Berry and his cameras hidden in the guest bathrooms. The list is endless in every walk of life. Caravaggio was a murderer.

Maybe my poor musicianship is a good thing, then?

I believe there is a recent book out about Caravaggio...

Schroeder - I was basically responding to the person that minimized what Ike did, since Hollywood loves to exaggerate the story, just because he could play a guitar.

BTW - my cousin is gay - I would not put him in the category of being mad or murderous. IMHO

Nor would I and I realised what I'd listed as I hit the button. Then the phone rang and I couldn't edit in time. I included it in the list as something that some people would find reason enough to dislike a person's work or achievements. Only when I'd written it did I realised how far it was open to misinterpretation.
Whatever prejudices I have in life, gay-bashing isn't one of them.

My prejudices are almost endless but they are mostly parochial and would mean little to those of a rebellious colonial persuasion. Just don't get me started on people from Manchester and Liverpool.

I've got no interest in getting into this discussion, but I will point out that if you think I minimized what Turner did, then you weren't responding to what I said. You were responding to how what I said made you feel.

Probably so Omaha but you have to go through it to understand it all. Have a good night.
