So I just got a new (to me) Ovation, haven't really played with it much, because I also just got a Guild D55...

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any archived Ovation brochures or anything and could tell me anything about it that I might not know otherwise...

It is an Elite Standard 6778, with an OP-24+ preamp, and the original high-output pickup. It has a one piece neck, and the guy I bought it from said it was new in about 1995. The soundhole epaulets are one-piece, non-inlaid, and one color. The purfling is white-tan-red-tan-brown. I haven't really seen anything else quite like it, but then, I was not looking at guitars 12 years ago (when I was 12 years old). It has to have a solid top, right? The inside edges of the soundholes are painted black, so I can't see the woodgrain...

If anyone knows anything else about an older 6778 that I don't, or how much its original retail/street prices might have been, I'd be mighty curious. Thanks.

It's a guitar. Tune it up and play 'till it hurts.

Welcome and nice collection Ben. At two hours a day each guitar, you'll barely have time for food and work.... but you can do it!

Go to the "links" section and check out ovation tribute.com. There is a wealth of information there. Catalog's, price lists etc..

Cool link, thanks! My guitar is a 1996 model from the specs/features in the catalogs, but it looks like it was made late in the 1995 run... Original MSRP - $1299... I wonder what that would have translated to on the street? Around $900, I suppose.

I was exclusively a Guild player for a couple of decades until I discovered Ovations in 1994. My first O was a 6778, which I played up until I got my first Legend. I traded a vintage Guild D50 for the Elite Standard 6778 and a Celebrity. The cash price for the 6778 was $700 if I remember right.

That dealer got a GREAT Guild in that deal, but I've been happy with my Ovations ever since.

Boy, that Guild really pops out in that picture, Ben. Beautiful burst.

And the shoes add a homey touch.
