Here is a brief announcement. Some say cheesy but some beautiful nice melodies.

What a drag...prostate cancer is not a good thing.

I only saw him once. Wonderful voice! What a talent.

Too young to die.

One of the biggest influences in my music...I used to do a lot of his songs...This is so sad...I'm in shock, although I knew he was fighting this...the candlelight of a true musical genuis has gone out..."I'm just a living legacy of the Leader of the Band"...Thanks Dan for the memories!

He probably spun off more acoustic amature guitar singers than anybody I could think of in the early 80's.

I know I am getting older now. The legends I remember listening to and copying are starting to die. Dan had a very beautiful voice.
I have not done 4 stars in a while perhaps I will blow the dust off that one and (as good as I can do it?) add it to the list again.

Way too young. Major early influence on many, including Garth Brooks.

His heyday was in my college years. One of my favorites. I don't have the range to singe his stuff anymore. I never could figure out his guitar stuff and only recently learned he used a lot of alternate tunings. I suppose that's why when I saw him in one of his solo concerts he kept switching guitars.

I almost feel adrift. Dan was the anthem & saving grace of my time in Uncle Sam's Flying Club. Many an evening spent, spinning up Souvenirs & Captured Angel.

I agree. “Leader of the Band” was one of my favorites.

His first four albums are still regulars in my CD rotation. His was a unique talent and he will be missed.

Reality check. I am feeling old and think I will soon get that colonoscopy I have put off for the last 3 years.

Always loved his tunes. Think I will have to listen to the old CDs this week.

I had the pleasure to see Dan in concert May 1975 at Hulman Center in Terre Haute, IN, opening for the Eagles. The sound was not so good that night, but the performance was excellent, and I have been a fan of his ever since.

Goodbye, Dan. While we still listen to your music, you are not truly dead.

I saw him around 1980. He came on, made his apologies, he was not feeling well, had the flu, but didn't want to let down everyone who had come. He looked and sounded like crap.

...then he proceeded to do an incredible 2 1/2 hour show, first half solo, then with the band...

Yeah, I recall fondly your rendition of As The Raven Flies at the 1st Northwest OFC Gathering. Had a lotta power & enthusiasm, as I remember!
Good one to practice tonite.....

I'm kinda bummed I didn't know who he was when he played the coffee house of the Student Union at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. 1976/77 It was a fairly small venue, but had acts like Renaissance, Harry Chapin, Papa John Creach, etc.. also. I had no idea who he was, so didn't go. Silly me.

I literally grew up listening to Dan, James Taylor, & the like.

We just celebrated my mom's 50th birthday yesterday...think I'll pick up the phone more often.

RIP Dan - you will be remembered in this time.

One of my favorites around this time of year is "Same Auld Lang Syne". I'll try and learn that one when I get back. I have a few of his records on vinyl.

RIP Dan, I always loved your stuff.
