Hi everyone. I'm hoping that this has an easy fix. My Ballader 1771 with OP-PRO electrincs killed the battery within a week (Duracell battery) after replacing the original battery which I thought was an old battery at the time.
Has anyone had this problem?
I kind of bummed because I was going to plug in tonight and now I have a dead battery and assuming an issue with the preamp. :(
Thanks for your thoughts.

I was wondering if the preamp tuner is staying on? I confused.

Take the jack out of the guitar and ensure that the power to the preamp gets disconnected when you take the plug out. Sometimes one of the contacts might need to be "reformed to spec" (i.e. "bent").

Are you conncected to an amp? If so, remove the guitar cord from the guitar jack when you are not playing.

The OP-Pro in my old LX 12 string drained batteries really fast - even if not plugged in. So far the OP-Pro/Studio in the UTE is not having the same problem...

I have that problem with the 99 Collector's. The tuner comes back on by itself even when there is nothing plugged in. I didn't look very hard for a fix since I rarely play plugged in. I just take the battery out.

Make sure it's unplugged at the jack when not plugged in. See how it lasts then.

The guitar has been in the case.
I do not know wether the tuner is staying on or not.
Could it have shorted out?
I've never had this problem with any of my guitars.
I have a guitar that I don't change the battery but every year or so...oh well.

I emailed John Budny yesterday and he's sending out another Preamp.
Ovation has superb customer service.
I wish my auto insurance was as good!

If Cliff is correct, a new pre-amp won't do the trick. Take a flashlight (and perhaps one of those inspection mirrors that have a telescoping wand attached) and look at the output jack. Make sure that the contacts are correctly positioned/separated. The jack itself could be faulty too.

I've noticed that the battery in the OP Pro doesn't last too long and I don't played plugged in all that often. Even so it usually is good for about a year. I have two Ovations with the old FET pre-amp and the battery lasts more than two years in those.

I overlooked what you were saying.
I tried looking at plug with an extension mirror and I can't see anything. I'lm going to pull the plug and see.
Thank you!

I took the jack out to take a good look at the inside and everything looks fine.

Thanks for your input.

I think leaving the guitar plugged in drains the battery.

The guitar has never been left plugged in.
It just kills the battery in less than a week.
