As Brian & I continue to pick fruit from the Guess Who tree, I'm reminded of the great voice of Burton Cummings. Reminds me of both Robert Plant and Harry Conick Jr. at the same time.

Along with Bill Henderson of Chilliwack/Collectors fame, among the great under-appreciated voices of rock.

Saw him years ago at the (then)Garden State Arts Center. He was the opening act for America. He was riding on the popularity of his song on the radio at the time, "Stand Tall" . . .

He had a good voice, but came across like a cheesey, Vegas lounge-act.

Burton Cummins can be his own worst enema.

Things are better since he and Randy Bachman patched things up. (Though stages everywhere have to be reinforced severely.)

I think it's from traveling with Ringo!

Naw. Burton always came across like a cheesey Vegas lounge act. At least Ringo does it with panache.

No, that would be "Jersey Fritters".

Panache: noun, name of any number of trendy restaurants guaranteed to survive no longer than 14 months.

Cheese is very popular up here, it's why we're known as Cheeseheads!

Guess Who - Flying On The Ground
(and you thought Neil Young couldn't write cheese?)

New Mother Nature all still alive and playing, which is an accomplishment in itself

Burton could always find that camera angle even in the early days!

I have to add that unfortunatly, his voice has not aged well. Seems like the only way he can hit the notes now-a-days is through his nose.
