Here's try number 2 for a 1619 from eBay. This one's in pretty good shape, I'd say 8 out of 10. There's a small (about 3/4" X 1/8") piece of finish & paint missing from the lower base bout, probably from a sharp side hit at some point, and a very small finish chip on the treble-side peghead wing, but other than a few minor and barely noticeable finish dings on the top and back of the neck, that's it. The color is much browner in tone rather than the red you usually see in sunbursts, makes an interesting contrast to the 1615-1 I'm currently keeping & the 1617-1 I'm trying to sell (that one sold on eBay, but the bidder hasn't paid or responded to multiple emails, so I'm listing that one again, but that's another story).

The fretboard is in GREAT shape for its age (gotta love that old, dense ebony), as is the ivory neck binding, and while the frets show some wear they still have a lot of life in them. The tuners look (and work) pristine.

The electronics were advertised as not working, so I dis-assembled everything and found that 2 wires had broken off, 1 from each jack. A simple soldering job & re-installation and the preamp works perfectly, not even the slightest bit of static when turning the knobs.

Action is low and sweet (3/32" bass E 12th fret), absolutely no fret buzz even with the hardest pick strumming, and the tone! - loud, warm, and very well balance from low to high.

I'll likely send her off to the spa for beauty treatment, but I'll wait until after the OFC jam so folks can see her. This one turned out much better than the last!

Great news, g8r. I'm glad you've found your "forever guitar." I'll bet it sounds awesome. I got mine back from the luthier yesterday, and the repair is seamless and perfect, and the sound... well, it's a deep bowl A braced Ovation, need I say more? :)

It's been a bit of a journey for both of us (yours unfortunately more complicated than mine), but in the end, it looks like we finally got the guitars we wanted.

Looking forward to the jam in January.
