Has anyone ever heard of an 1861-GT? It's my first Ovation and I was trying to find out about its history. I've searched the interweb extensively and came up with zilch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

An 1861 is a super-shallow center-hole Balladeer. Like This.

Being that yours is older, it may not have a tuner.

I know nothing about the "GT" part.
Some of the new Adamas have a "GT" designation, but...

HVAC ... welcome. I've never heard of that particular model, but it could be something from a small run. Any way you could post or link to a picture? What color is the top? Is there any other information on the label? Any idea as to it's age? That will help to get the speculation under way.

Did it take you as long as it did me?

good job on figuring out HVAC. you are the only ones to get it. The GT is gold and from the serial number 535305, it was made in 1998. I cant figure out how to attach a pic so I will put it in an email to Bobbo.

I think I figured it out right away ... pretty obvious if you were hooked on phonics.

Got the picture ... here it is ...

I'd venture to say a small run from the mid nineties and the GT stands for Gold Top. Nice looker ... not sure I've ever seen one before. The silver, yes ... but not the gold. I'll bet that thing looks awesome under stage lights.

Here is the response that I got back from Ovation:

Ben,
The -GT model refers to the top color (Goldtop). It was made for about a year and while there was a silver sparkle guitar produced, it was on an 1867, not an 1861. We don't compile production numbers by model or color, sorry.

Not really a whole lot of information, so my research carries on.
