at this site:
http://www.raccs.com/html/acoustic_guitar.html
there's an 'ovation replacement' pickup shown:
SH 066-9, or SH 069-P.

Has anyone tried these pickups and are they any better that the original Ovation pickup?

later...

My Deutsche is rather rusty, but it looks like a distribution company. Somebody like Alpep would need to get hold of them, as a retailer/reseller.

SH 066-9 is:
http://www.shadow-electronics.com/viewpro.html?id=24

I also found out the price: $169.
but is would it be worth it vs the original Ovation pickup?

Everything in the description says it's the same as the Ovation p/u, and that's more $$ than what you'd pay for an Ovation p/u.

Why would anybody buy this?

Probably buys 'em direct from CT then sells re-sells 'em at 2X cost. Capitalism at its best!

Shadows are weak.
I've had three shadow pickups and neither one was good. Every of them were worse than those installed in my '79 legend.

The Shadows are excellent pickups. At some point Ovation were using Shadow for OEM

i'vr had 2x SH-91 and SH-66. in SH 66 there was a lot of quacking - maybe bad unit?
SH-91 i've had in my Crafter guitars (they were installed there as OEM) and lack of intonation compensation was problematic.

couldn't find TV Jones Mini's at their site:
http://tvjones.com/

I'm working on a TUSQ saddle as an improvement from the original delrin saddle.
So far, the Tusq saddle(made from a 1/4" wide blank) adds to the tone with brightness and the overall acoustic volume is increased.

Just having a small change in volume (decreased) when plugged in...
especially with the hi-E string(all strings except the E-string create a steady green-lite when in tune; E-string kinda of flickers...)
I could still re-install the original Ovation saddle, but I rarely plug-in.
I may try a modification to the saddle to try and add to the string volume balance by adding a slot between each string and see if that helps.
