Location: Birmingham, Al. | I have been reading some threads posted in the late 2000's about truss rod adj. I read that the Allen wrench that you need is a 3/16". Is this still true? I have a Korean made Elite 1778TX-5 with an access hole in the back. Does anyone know where I can get the actual Ovation wrench to do the adjustment? It's part #950059-X. It seems that this would make the whole process a lot easier. Thanks for any help with this. |

America still uses Imperial measurement i.e. yards, feet, and inches. If the truss rods are made in Korea the measurements cold well be in metric centimetre millimetre etc or even some other scale.
I have read of many truss rods being damaged as a result of the wrong sized wrench being used. I am sure someone in the BFLG forum will have the definitive answer meanwhile......................patience. |

The "new" wrenches are those little silver ones with equal length arms that come with TX and Celebrity's.
The "old" wrenches are the black ones that look like "normal" Allen wrenches.
They are both 3/16".
But you should stick a wrench in the orifice.
If it fits snugly you can proceed... If not, try another size.
And I keep this photo handy....

Location: Birmingham, Al. | By the way. Although I bought my instrument new, Guitar Center didn't have the truss rod wrench that was supposed to come with it. It seems my store is bad about putting hardware like tremelo arms and such in a drawer never to be found. Bad practice! |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Alan... I once sold a Parker P44 to Guitar Center.
I wanted to include the gig-bag, splitter cable, a strap, whammy bar... all that stuff.
They didn't want it. They said that it was "too much stuff to keep track of"...
So I left there with a bunch of stuff that I would have included had I sold it to a person.
Yeah... I would say that GC is the Wal-Mart of music stores...
Except that would be insulting Wally.
The poor folks that work there usually try to be helpful.

Location: Sydney, Australia | I doubt they'd re-design the Korean guitars with a brand new truss rod design. I'm guessing they're using the old Kaman bar design on the Korean models, which would make it a 3/16" not metric |
