Since I'm on the hunt for 5 specific guitars as many of you know that were my uncles. EVERY DAY I search Ebay and EVERY SINGLE city on craigslist for the word:

Ovation
Alvarez

Since I'm only looking for these specific guitars, I don't really care about the other ones that are out there. Now I'm assuming most of you since on an ovation fan club love ovations but probably don't have the time to search every day, every city, etc...

If there is any specific ovation or alvarez models you'd like me to keep my eyes open for, just let me know. Figured I'm doing it anyway, might as well help out others if I can.

This are the only ones I'm looking for. All of them have to be able to trace back to my uncle. I don't want JUST that model. I want HIS guitars.

Thanks. I figure many of you are looking for specific models so you can either post them or pm me and if I run across them, I'll drop you a line

Thanks for the offer, sj. I'll keep an eye out for those. I'm searching for a 1658 (or 1158, same thing but w/o electronics) 12-string Custom Legend, and a 1537 Elite.

The 1885-NB5 that I had was sold to a member here, it was a pawn shop purchase off of e-bay, very nice ss 12, it did have some distinguishing blemishes when I got it..

I will happily disclose that I was the person that bought the 1885-NB5 from Glenn. Glenn did a good job on it as the guitar is pretty clean so there are not really any distinguishing marks that I can see. No way to tell from from your picture if the one Glenn sold me is your uncle's. There is no grain to match and without a serial # would be impossible to know if it is 'the' one.

Regarding this one. He used inheratince money to buy and ended up in jail. My grandfather (who helped him out a TON)was trying to buy it back from the pawn shop but due to laws, they couldn't really tell him anything. He did go up the day it came out of pawn and hit the floor but had been sold that very morning when they opened by a person in St. Louis who goes there to look for guitars frequently. I think he paid $900 for it. I gave my name/number to charolette to give to the guy when he came back in as she couldn't give me his info but she then quit. So, I doubt it would have been sold through a pawn shop but the individual who bought it so I doubt it's the same one. By any chance, do you remember, if it came from st. louis? I appreciate the reply though.

In regards to the ones you're looking for, what sites do you usually look on?

No worries as it's going to be probably the toughest to actually determine "for sure"
I am working with a few people to see about finding the serial number :D

Odds are it's not the one you have but if I come across the serial number I'll drop you a line and I'll see if I can make it worth your wild :D

amazing what a black sharpie, and a crayola crayon can cover up :p ... but if you look at the waist on the bass side by the preamp you'll see it, also the binding in the same place has a chip. I think the case latch nicked it.

Is this the 1537 you're looking for?

http://www.songbirdmusic.com/product_details.asp?id=25205&ret=%2Fwa...

It's in canada but shipping from there usually isn't bad

Also, just so you know. The Canadian dollar runs about the same as ours so it's right at $700

sj - thanks, that's the one. I got a line on another one in sunburst (in better shape than that one seems to be, and also with OHSC) from another member here thanks to my post earlier in this thread. The sale is pending, but there's no reason it won't go thru. I appreciate your diligence, and I'm still looking out for the ones you're looking for. The last on my list of "must-haves" is now the slot-head, 12th-fret 12-string Custom Legend (1658), and my GAS pains will be cured (for now ;) ).

Isn't there a 1658 on sale here currently?

g8r, didn't someone have a 1547 for sale on this board recently? It's a 1537 with a cutaway.

There is, but I can't quite (yet) convince SWMBO (that's our shorthand for She Who Must Be Obeyed) that we should spend that much on another 12-stringer. Maybe after tax time we'll have a bit more pocket money I can play around with. Also, not to take anything away from Stuart, since that is a stunning guitar, but I would prefer vintage, so ideally I'd rather have one with the original electronics.

I think you're right, but I don't think the 1547 would have quite the mojo of a full-bodied.

I've only played one, not side by side with my 1537, and couldn't tell any difference. If anything, they might have a little more bass-bias than the 1537s.

Don't believe it until you've played a 1547 or an 87C. The mojo is there.

A 1537 and an 87C makes for a nice combination, especially if your daughters also happen to have been born in 83 and 87. They better be as nice to the old man as their guitars are.
