Location: Boise, Idaho | I don't mean for this to be OT. I was wondering this morning if anyone else resolved to learn some new music this year. I'm working on Longer and Castles in the Air and would really like to learn a few more by Fogelberg and McLean.
We know that Cliff is starting on a solo career. What's everone else doing musically this year.
I resolve to attend my first factory tour. |

Location: GA USA | I plan to play more guitar, learn new songs regularly, play out more, and maybe even write a song or two.
I've always been a very lazy guitar player. Going to Ovation jams has made me "want to be a better man". I've worked harder this past year than before because I know that I'm going to be around great players like MusicMishka, Lanaki, TRboy, Designzilla...
If I left you out, it doesn't mean I don't think you're great too.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I've resolved to pace myself on GAS relief. I have room only for a few more, and then I may have to go to the one in/one out rule. Mark, a few months ago I was doing a solo instrumental gig using the loop, and I mput down about five layers doing Fogelberg's Run for the Roses. I did others by him, but the melody on this one just seemed to hit home with the patrons. |

Location: Marlton, NJ | I resolve to focus more on actually improving on the guitar instead of just playing willy nilly (there's a band or a song name!). Like the Prof, I also need to slow waaay down on Gas relief. Most of all, I resolve to finish some of these damn projects! |

Location: Simpsonville, SC | After my first full year of playing and purchasing :eek: , I resolve to setup an actual practice routine for LEARNING this instrument.
GAS is over, I have plenty of great guitars (for me). After watching many friends (OFC and others) I realize that I have a long road to travel and and I ain't gettin any younger.
Thanks to the OFC for many new friends and plenty of inspiration. Maybe one day, I will be able to play like many of you. :D :cool: :D |

Focus on just Ted Greene's music books and not buy any more.
Try to find someone to play with.

Location: south east Michigan | I'd rather call it a goal than a resolution.
1) Have an original song (my first) ready for the Frisky Mermaid.
2) More practice time. With one more bird out of the nest we have a nice size bedroom to work with. Half will be for Pam's scrapbook stuff and half for guitar stuff. I'll be able to have my amp & mic stand up and ready to go at the flip of a switch. This room will also have it's own computer set-up for recording.
3) Be prepared for Amelia Island.
4) Play out more. For a long time Brian & I would have two new songs per month ready for an open mic night. That system worked well to build up our set list. I'd like to get back to something like that. |

3) Learn some finger picking patterns instead of the usual strum rhythym / lead single note work.
4) Try to get to the tour
5) I have four guitars. Sell one and buy a new one. And maybe a really portable amp.

Location: Utah | I want to learn a few songs that I can play solo. My current repertoire consists of playing one guitar part for songs played by a band. When someone asks me to play them something I cannot really play them a song, just some chords or some lead licks.
Most vocals are too high for me, so it'll be Johnny Cash, Harry Chapin, and some transposing of keys for others.
First on the list is "A Boy Named Sue". |

Location: Boise, Idaho | As usual, there is a fine line between inspiration and despair. Some of you seem to have very lofty goals or resolutions. Greg at least seems to have given up on his search for the holy grail of guitars, but finding someone to play with might be difficult if you are way over everyone's head.
It seems like many of us think we are just barely competent. I always hear some kid at Guitar Center and wish I played that well. Then one day, one of the kids I was admiring came over and asked how I learned what I was playing. The hint of admiration in his voice shocked me. Maybe we're not as bad as we think we are. We just all know different songs. Just go look at all the different variations of the same tab. They may all sound good and everyone's doing their own thing. I'll continue to do my own thing and take whatever help I can get.
Greg, you have a much better chance of finding someone to play with in Portland than I do in Boise. I can't even get anyone to come over and check out the OFC guitar. |

3) Snag a drummer or two.
4) Spend time fishing.
5) Get a few gigs for Dave, me, and a drummer to be named later.
6) Arrange 'In The Mood' and 'The Stripper' for rockabilly trio. |

Location: PDX | Mark: nope, i haven't given up the search. But my Collings C10 is pretty darn close! I just do not see the point in tying up a lot of cash in guitars that spend 99% of their time in the closet.
I want to get to the configuration: an electric guitar, the C10, my porch guitar, one at work, and one slot for rotation. That's five, not four -- i forgot the one at work in my original post.
And you're right, finding someone to play with will be tough -- even in Portland. You have to match musical interests, proximate location, schedules, and skill level. Tall order. Now if you'd just move down here with your family we'd solve both of our problems :)

1) get a "cedar" guitar
2) improve finger-picking
3) learning more songs (James Tayor, J. Mitchell, Teitur, Chris Still, M. Kearney, Nick Drake.........30s to Mars :D )
impossible resolution:
.. I really would like to get a factory tour, but I'm living tooooo far away....!

Location: Boise, Idaho | Greg, you're one of those that I'd prefer to sit and listen to. I don't think I could ever play along. I have enough trouble getting through a song by myself. No way we'd move there, but, if my daughter keeps loving Portland as much as she does currently, I'll probably be visiting even more.
I will soon have 2 Ovation guitar stools waiting for any of your butts to occupy them. (Maybe I should have said "you butts".) |
