You only see it for a few seconds in the background, and then from the back, but the tailpiece is a dead giveaway. The scene is in the hotel room (about halfway through the movie) when his new girlfriend asks him to play a tune. That this made enough of an impact on me to mention here kind of scares me. Like I've crossed a threshold or something and there's no going back.

When Oddball said he was watching Eddie, I immediately looked at his location, thinking that he must be from NJ. Edited: I looked at Wikipedia and I see that the Beaver Brown Band is from RI, but they WERE the poor man's E-Street band, hence the confusion.

They must have had a serious musical historian working on the movie because all the instruments were more or less directly in time context. Just got back from seeing Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story. There's an Ovation in it....among several other things! I went to see this with my 17 yr old daughter and we just didnt look at each other during the scenes at the beginning in the black music dance club and later in the Hotel scene (ahem!). I thought Jenna Fischer did a wonderful job as ever and aged beautifully. Certainly not a perfect movie, but I felt the music and themes were parodied beautifully.
