Location: Sydney, Australia | While tightening the truss rod on my Adamas II 12 string, I have split one of the braces (the truss rod was VERY tight, even though I'd taken all the strings off). You can see the broken brace - the one immediately to the right of the truss rod. Here's the broken section: Any words from the wise before I attempt to glue this back together? |

I'd use either a top quality carpenter's glue or hide glue. The liquid hide glue is tempting, and has similar strength to the carpenter's glue, slightly less strength than hot hide glue. Any of those should be stronger than the wood itself if applied properly. So I would go with carpenter's glue because it will clean up with water.
The critical workmanship issue will be to get the wood pieces to fit back together very tightly. And then get the excess glue cleaned up before it hardens. A minimal amount of glue to ensure the joint is solid but there is no excess globs like Dan found on the '67 Balladeer project. http://www.ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=40...
If you can get a long armed clamp or two in there through the epaulet holes that would be ideal. If not, some kind of weighting to hold the loose piece down firmly while the glue sets.
I would not resort to screws or doublers, as the added weight would be harmful to tone.
When a brace popped loose on my Patriot it glued down easily with carpenter's glue. No problem with joint strength. |

A lot of people here on OFC recommend Titebond, which isn't all that common in Australia. However, Masters hardware carry it.
Here's a couple of photos of the clamp that I made from a turnbuckle when I repaired the broken braces on my Folklore.
Good luck with the repair.
