Talk to the folks at Ovation. Putting on a new neck would give you a really nice guitar.

A new neck would probably run you ~$500 (I recently asked JB about that). If the top's in good shape (no buckling or cracks, braces ok), then let the Wizards put on a new neck, polish her up all nice and fancy, and you'd have a beauty in looks and a tone monster in sound. Don't know if you could sell her for twice what you put into repairs, but you could certainly get significantly more than the repair costs for a minty one that age. (but why would you want to get rid of her after a refurbishment? ;) )

Hang it on the wall with all that other nice gear you have, then just keep playing the Vipers. Sure works for me.

New neck? Some techs can make an almost seamless repair, that in terms of use, will be good as new. I think cracks add character, but that's just me. That said, if there's a witness line at the repair (there probably will be) it will definitely knock value off the guitar. But you know that right? If the witness line is barely noticable, then less.... question is how much? Exactly, what it is I dunno.

I always look at the cracked guitars first, always get the most value out of them.

How bad is the separation? Do the pieces fit together tightly? If there are little bits of wood missing, it will be harder, if its a clean tight fit a good tech should be able to repair it. Or, just wait till a neck comes up on fleabay from a wrecked guitar.

That second neck is from an Elite, not a Legend.

I agree that the condition of the top wood makes a big difference. If it looks like it'll be a good guitar when fixed, it's probably a $$ wash when the repair is considered if your tech says it's doable. It's not likely to be something you can flip for much of a profit, if any at all. You simply have a trophy of redemption to play.

He says he can do a real nice job on it...the headstock was broke off, but all the pieces are there & the neck inlay is very nice..pickup with one knob...case is a little worn, but ok..does the serial number sound like 73? Thanx Dan
