OK, I NEVER thought I would be asking this question ... WHAT STRINGS DO YOU RECOMMEND ???

For the last 5 years I CRINGED every time some newbie asked that question. I just wanted to screem in to the computer keyboard "I DON'T F$CKING KNOW. IT'S LIKE UNDERWEAR. EXPERIMENT UNTIL YOU FIND SOMETHING COMFORTABLE THAT GETS THE JOB DONE. LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE..."

NOW, here I am with hat in hand and tail between legs asking for some advice. An NO, don't tell me to do a SEARCH. I'm too lazy for that and you schmucks have the answers already so just give it to me, OK?

I'm asking about NYLON STRINGS. I just bought my first REAL classical guitar. Wood, not plastic. I have zero talent for this kind of instrument, but even in my hands it sounds darn nice. But I have NO FREAKING CLUE about strings. I hear about HIGH tension, LOW tension, HARD tension, blah, blah, blah ...

Please tell me what to buy. I don't need the whole sob story, how you've experimented with this and that ... I don't freaking care WHY. WHY, is not important. Just TELL ME what to buy and be done with it.

Thanks in advance. Shut up, Moody ...

Dave

Bite me, Tup.....

Use Elixir hard tension. Last forever and have a very good sound. I've got them on my 1773LX and you can feel the back of the guitar rumble when you play it......

When I asked Serge - Country Artist - he told me that the D'Addario Pro Arte medium or hard tension were the way to go as well.

He has been known to play some Nylon string guitars from time to time!

That, and Non-Whitey Tighties are my preference.

Clifford, you've never tried these. I'd also bet that you've never tried the Elixir phos/bronze. I don't think you could tell them from uncoated strings, except they last one helluva long time longer...

Tried 'em both (in music stores in Manhattan & Colorado).

Didn't like 'em. Sorry.

D'Addario Hard Tension EJ46

They also make the same gauge in a composite which are good also.

I also have used the EJ33 Folk nylon. When I'm too lazy to tie the ends at the bridge. :D

Savarez 520P's. They are high tension, tie-end classical guitar strings. Now, have a nice day  ...

Every time I hear geeks comparing one piece of arcane data with another and how one is so much better than another, then recall when a really good guitar player picked up a POS guitar with rusty strings that I had just cursed and made it sing its own special song I am reminded of an old Gaelic expression.

It's a poor workman blames his tools.

I used to go with D'addario Pro Arté Composites, but I hated the hazzle with tying them to the bridge.

Since then I use D'addarios J34 Folk Nylons with ball ends - and: the nylons are black!

I heard only the best about Thomastik nylons, an austrian brand - but did not try them til now.

I've been using Aquila classical strings. Same "Nylgut" synthetic gut formula as they use for their Uke strings. Now, as usual the only reason I'm using these is because I can get them wholesale, but they sound damn nice on my Viper. I'll be trying them on my new LX Classic when I pick it up next week
