I wanted to share with you a one of a kind gem I unearthed this past week. This is Pat Martino's double neck Adamas he had made in 1980 or 1981. It originally left Moosup with 2 nylon 6 necks on it, the bottom being inverted stringing. Mr. Martino at some point gave it to Rik Jonnas who in turn sent it back to Ovation in 1987 for display purposes. I do not know what happened to it beyond this time period. Someone took the necks off (I assume to install on other A's being repaired or made) at the factory and installed traditional 12/6 steel necks. It plays great, sounds great, weighs a ton.

WOW! That is just way too cool! Does the 12-string and 6-string have stereo outputs for each? That would provide for some creative amplification options. Incredible post. Thanks Danomyte!

Yes it is stereo on both sides. 2 separate wiring configurations completely. I think the doubles now have a switch and 1 set of jacks.

Why would someone want normal and inverted stringing on one guitar?

I just don't understand.

While Pat could play inverted, I think Rik Jonnas said he also liked that if a lefty player came to his home they could play the guitar.

+1 Would love to hear that one. Wonder how many A doublenecks came out. I don't think I've ever seen one before.

It's quite loud up on the 12. The 6 is a bit more subtle, sounds a little distant, but it's nice. As far as what we know this is the only Adamas double neck Ovation ever made, possibly the first double acoustic Ovation made as well. Tom Shultz double preacher was first for sure.

Very nice, first Adamas this kind I have seen.
Question: Does it have a sound ring?

It does not have the suspended sound ring like most Adamas'. The binding is the same type as on an Applause inner outter ring. ABS plastic raised ring.

Nice guitar. The 12 side is probably louder because it's on the non-cutaway side, which doesn't give the six string side much of a chance to compete while unplugged.

Enjoy it!

Hey Todd. Yes the upper 12 is quite loud, but the 6 isn't too bad. It's real bassy. The 12 strings vibrate alot when playing the 6 so it compliments it pretty good and provides fill. I messed around with some of the tuning on the 6 side to compliment the 12 side, its pretty cool. While it's a large guitar to handle it's nice to have the option to play 6 or 12 without having to change guitars. I had mini mothership re-setup the whole thing and they got it perfect.

Glad to hear you're really enjoying it and that competent hands were able to tune it up for you.

That is amazing! Congrats on unearthing that beauty. I love my Adamas, but that is a whole different level of killer.

Thanks Tim. It's a trip to play. Mark Kroos could probably do things with this and really make it sing. That cat is something else on a double.

Had hoped to commission an Adamas Slothead 6 & 12 before the mothership closed their doors but it was not to be. I will have to be satisfied with my Elite

That's what career military service does to ya, I refuse to shave or get a hair cut :-)

I did the opposite. When I had long hair and a beard, I refused to go into the military. Now I'm just jealous of anyone with hair.
