I don't really ever want to grow up, but I'd STILL like to play like that!

Start with the tattoos and face paint and see if it helps.

The tatoos and make-up was to make him look like Tonto (Johnny Depp).

This is not the first time a guitarist has taken this on ...

In fact, it was once played on an Ovation acoustic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSE1GrQVzCQ

And then, on an Ovation electric 12 string: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYAkAtSE8xI

I know t's not the first time. Hell, I play the darned thing myself but I'll tell you, my arrangement is pretty darned feeble compared to this kid's. And what I also like about it is he is not being backed up by an orchestra. It's just him, a drum machine, and a few stomp boxes.

And a pre-recorded backing track including a bass and at least two other guitars ...

But he did it all himself. There is a "question and answer" video on his page where he explains how he records. He started playing classical and then went to Berkley.

I'm not dissing Glen here. I just really really like this guy's arrangement and his playing.

Hey CS, I'm not dissing this guy either. I misunderstood your point that he did it himself ... I thought you were saying it was all live. My bad.

My attempt to draw attention to some Ovation rarities was also poorly done. Let me try again: Yeah, that's really well done. Hats off to him. BTW, I ran across some old clips of Glen Campbell also doing this song on some Ovation guitars ... here's one where he uses an Ovation nylon string (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSE1GrQVzCQ) and here's one when Glen uses the rarely seen Bluebird 12 string (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYAkAtSE8xI).

And someday when I grow up I will post MY version IF I can ever punch it up some so it can even vaguely compare to this guy or Glen... Nah, I'm too old now - I'll NEVER be that good!

Unfortunately, I got stuck with the growing up part. It's tough to regain that youth I should have wasted.

On a 7 string guitar is there an extra high string... or a extra low string?
(and I'm not coming out of left field and off topic... Tonto is using a 7 string)

Usually on a seven string you have an extra bass string tuned to B.

Yeah because if you go to the fifth fret on B you get E. It's the same as with five string basses. If it's tuned that way the leads or bass runs fall into place naturally.

I guess you can tune them any way you want to. Anybody ever play an eight string?
