In the wee hours of this past Tuesday morning I was awakened by a severe pain in my abdomen. Having had 18 prior major abdominal surgeries I immediately knew I was experiencing a bowel obstruction as I've gone through it five times previously. This time, however, the pain was far worse, it felt like I always do right after awakening from surgery and even a little worse. Realizing my intestine could be turning gangrene and I would have a few hours to live, I gave some thought for the first time in my life to grabbing the 9mm and ending the pain no human was designed to endure. I knew the ER routine that would await me and didn't want to experience it again. My wife was awakened by noises I was making writhing in bed and got up and drove me to the ER. After getting there I continued to endure pain another two hours before an IV was inserted and a measly 4mg of morphine was given. I was stared at like I was a zombee when I said that wasn't going to touch my pain level because I was already a chronic pain disabled person and in pain management. After calling my doctor I was finally given dilaudid which still barely made a dent. I was admitted and starved for three days in the hope that the blockage would resolve itself. In reality, my surgeon didn't want to operate on me again because the last time she did I remained hospitalized six months with horrendous complications. Fortunately the issue did resolve with no apparent damage to my intestines. I lay there for three days watching the clock for each four hour interval where I could be given more potent pain medication. This is the first time an event like this didn't result in a major surgery. This forum is probably the only place where people would understand that I often laid in bed using the thought of playing my Ovation guitar as motivation to get well faster. I got out yesterday and wasn't home a half hour before it was in my hands. None of the other guitars I have would do it for me after surviving the worst pain in my life without either checking out early or having surgery. Maybe this could evolve into a "what crisis did the thought of making it back to your Ovation pull you through" thread? LOL

Here's hoping for a quick recovery. (without YOU around we have to pick on Moody, and that's not nearly as much fun)

Glad I have an important function here. Sammy Davis Jr. once said "if your friends don't make fun of you they don't give a d a m n about you". I particularly enjoy Slipkid's OCD over making as many disparaging remarks as he can tax his brain to think of about my posts. It's like he considers me to be someone who is always peeing in his Wheaties.

"Peeing in your Wheaties" just might be your problem. You might owe him a thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Glad that it all turned-out alright.

I was wondering where you were...
You were mentioned in a few threads without responding.
Glad that you are back.

Good news Dave. I emphathize. I broke both, arm, both legs ,my neck and dislocated my right shoulder. It took me 4 years to walk unassisted. Anytime we don't have to "go under the knife" is great.

Dave it is so good to hear you did not have to have another surgery. Being the victim of many myself I feel you. Hope you get up and around soon brother.

Good Lord!! All at the same time? Sounds like you got hit by a bus, or were in a plane crash...

Pullin' for you brother. I did some hospital time recently (almost checked out: lung clots). Did NOT bring my guitar to the hospital, alas.

Bob. I was 14. Delivering newspapers on a motorcycle and was hit head-on by a 1970's era Chevy pickup. You know the kind, made out of that thick steel. Ouch!
