There is a post W597 Whats the difference?
I have tried to help this person out but I feel I am not qualified to answer the questions. So if Cliff, Al, Bill, Dave, somebody help this person out.
Thanks Pauly

Which way did he come in? :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. I can't help him out either. I never was a fan of the smooth top Adami, although they look nice. Texture top is the only way to go IMHO.

Well, the MEWP is a smooth top and plays just fine. Some people don't like the looks. Some do. Just like some people like Picasso and others don't.

Somebody tell me if I'm right or wrong here...

As far as I can tell from a technical viewpoint, the disadvantage to the smooth-top Adamii is that they don't have the Adamas top ring which gives a guitar more depth and, therefore, a deeper, richer sound.

What I mean to say is there's no difference in the sound produced from the smooth top as opposed to the textured top. It has to do with other factors present in the different Adamas models.

For instance, if they took a 1581 reissue and made it with a smooth top, all other things being the same, it would sound the same as my 1581 with the textured top.

John, I think there is a difference in tone (beyond the top ring) between the the smooth and textured tops. Don't know if it's mojo or the physical properties of a textured top but I've yet to hear a smooth top that can rival a textured acoustically. Maybe it's because there's more surface area on a textured top? Maybe the smooth tops are more rigid?

I think the textured tops are thinner and more responsive to vibration . . .

Bingo, I think Cliff hit it. The smooth tops have an extra coat of resin to make them smooth (I believe) (of course, I could be full of it)

That's kind of what I meant when I said the smooth tops were more rigid.

If you have a chance look at nyfont's post W597 Whats the difference? See if you can answer his questions I would hate to give someone the wrong answers.
