Location: MD | I'm long standing Ovation fan. I purchased my oldest one (a Country Artist) back in 9/73, and it's still going strong today! I also have a mint condition Book Elite (1768-7LTD). I've been trying to find out what it's worth, but there isn't a lot of information available about the value. Anyone have any ideas? |

Location: Tennessee | Hi Spires. Ovation prices are all over the board, no pun intended. The range is huge. Some will fetch $1500 or more, and I know people who have snagged them off eBay for around $600. Monetarily, I would expect somewhere in between. But you use "worth" and then "value" in your question, and the two are generally not synonymous when it comes to Ovations.
If you've owned an Ovation since 1973, you must have some great stories and memories you can share. |

Location: MD | I know Ovation prices are all over the board, and I've found a lot "For Sales". And what's asked & what's actually paid are usually 2 different numbers. However, I'm looking for a ballpark monetary value of one particular model - the Book Elite 1768-7LTD.
(As for stories, on the road full time as a solo act between '77 and '82, and only played Ovations. Yes - lots of stories.) |

Location: MD | As far as the difference between "value" and "worth", my 1973 model is a County Artist - a nylon string model. I don't know what the monetary value is, but it's worth more than money to me. Everyone who hears it loves it, and I've been playing it for about 37 years. My son never picked up the guitar, so when I leave this world, he may sell it. I won't while I'm here. |

Location: Tennessee | Oh, sorry for the mis-communication. The ranges I shared above are for a Book Elite in particular. Find the right buyer, and you'll wind up nearer the higher end ... need to move it quick or simply run it at auction and you'll probably get a lot less. |

Location: MD | Wow! I just find it hard to believe that anyone would let a Book Elite go in the $600 range unless there was something wrong with it! Guess you can see just about anything from people who are cash strapped. |

Location: Tennessee | Sometimes people don't know what they have. To most people, the Book looks just like the brand new guitar nephew Billy got for $450 at Guitar Center. Heck, you can get a brand new Custom Legend for under a grand. And most people hear with their eyes.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Book Elites are not that special. Rare, yes ... but not one of the best sounding Ovations out there. Most of my other Ovations sound better than my Book. Same for some people I know here. But the bling is the thing. And that comes cheap from China these days. |
