I used to keep my old pacemaker 12 string tuned down 1 tone to reduce stress on the saddle and surface cracks. My refurb guy has a new top with the latest bracing, so is it safe to tune it to A 440? Years ago it as standard practice to tune down, but I remember hearing they fixed the issue with surface cracks and saddle lifting issues . This new baby is so beautiful I want to keep it that way, but I'd also like to tune it Up at least a semi-tone.

I'd like to hear all opnions on this.

Tune to standard pitch. O's are built to take it.

Everything I've heard about Ovation 12's says that they're about the only 12-string you can keep at standard pitch and not worry. That's been my experience with my 1615 (a '79 vintage).

Thats excellent info ,thanks. I'm going to re-tune up 1 semi tone for now , and see how it suits my voice. I don't want to have to transpose my entire repertoire up a key, but I think I can get away with singing a half step up
