Hi,

I've been saving money for the Ovation Adamas 1581-kk through several years. It was easy to find in Europe for that time, but now that I have the money for it is gone, there's no way to find this model in any european country.

At least I can't find it anymore and I asked the distributors here in Germany as well, but they say it won't be distributed in Europe anymore.

Does anybody here know if it's anywhere in Europe to find? Some (internet) shop that may still have a copy to sell?

Or do I have only the chance to buy in USA and pay the shipping and customs costs?

I'd check eBay.uk.com.might still come from US but the seller will be set up to ship international. There is an ad for zozomusic with a kaki king, it is coming from the US but said shipping was 99$ so that's not to bad for international.

Or talk to alpep at lost art vintage.he has one his site at a better price than the ones one eBay so even if you have to pay extra for shipping you'll still probably get a good deal.

Thank you 2wheeldrummer, I've already sent an email to alpep and I'm waiting his answer. I've already contacted him a couple of months ago but there are some things in the selling process that I'd like to clear.

I've also checked eBay.uk, the Ovation copies there come also from the USA, I just wonder what would happen with the customs costs, then inside the european union we don't pay them, but the guitar is actually coming from the USA, so I guess it doesn't make a difference if I buy through eBay UK, I would have to pay the customs anyway. In that case I think the best deal is to buy from alpep…

Well, let's see because I want that guitar really bad, I'll tell you whatever happens and every advice is still welcome

I have recently bought a second hand 1581 from the USA into the UK. On top of the purchase price the shipping costs is added plus acoustic guitar duty of 3.2% and with that lot added together I was charged 20% vat so it is a tax on a tax. Not sure if it is the same importing to Germany.

Regards

Marc

thank you marcwel0, I think in Germany the customs costs for items coming from the USA are about 21% plus that duty depending on the article, so I think it would about the same.

May I ask you where did you find that second hand 1581? I've never seen any second hand 1581, I mean the Kaki King signature of course, not the regular 1581.

marcwel0, I've read your post, so I know now where you did find your 1581 and that it's not the kk signature, but also a great guitar. It would be nice to see some pictures of it

Bought it from a private seller. Wasn't actually after another guitar but this redburst made in 1983 came up and I couldn't resist it.

Bearing in mind how often Ovation use different model numbers for fairly similar guitars I have never worked out the standard 1581 and the KK1581 carry the same number as the woods used and bowl size are different as well as the top finish.

But it sounds great. I also own a mid bowl W587 but the 1581 is the better guitar when playing without an amplifier. If you are going for your first Adamas I would definitely say go for a deep bowl. If you're playing mainly plugged in the it makes little difference.

I like the W597 too, I don't know how much different it is to the W587, but as you said, there are so many model numbers it's difficult to know what's the difference between them.

I've been looking for some alternative models to the 1581 kk and found out some interesting ones, the W597 was one of them, but there are also the regular one and the Melissa Etheridge signature one, the white Adamas, which I like too.

But finally I'm buying the Adamas 1581 Kaki King signature from alpep, that guitar has really something special for me. It's not just that Kaki is one of my favorite musicians, the design is also perfect and I've been saving money since years for that one. Buying another one instead of it could only be a mistake.

Either way it's an Adamas and for that reason alone you can't go wrong. I hope you enjoy it.
When I wrote W587 I actually meant to write W597. I don't think ovation have used W587 as a number yet but give them time...

I would say: As long as it's a textured top. SMTs and CVTs don't do the trick for me. They're good, but in no way as good as any textured toppped Adamas.

Nice to hear your words, thank you both. I think I won't regret having bought the 1581 KK, much more I think I would have regret not doing it

As soon as I get the guitar I'll be posting some video with audio and pics to share, I hope I can do this very soon.
