I have had two of the DiMeola 1769-ADII. Sold both of them. They are great modified Custom Legends especially as they are cut-away whereas my favorite Custom Legend is the 1719-30CM.

As an acoustic, I give the medal to the CL 1719-30CM but again it is not a cut-away and the difference should be disregarded if you need a cut-away or a "boost". There are other Ovation 'A' braced AAA top out there that can also compete with the CL but I have a 'thing' for 'bling' (aka abalone).

Please be aware that there are three guitars labeled Adamas: textured top, CVT, and SMT. The textured top is far above the CVT and SMT.

The textured top 1687 (and 1688 12-str) are amazing. When I got my first 1687, I was shocked. It is that good but expensive. And, some like the Adamas sound, some don't.

So, what is best...nice if you could play them both. Hard to do. Even sent one of my Adamas 1687's to the NorthWest for a month so some of the guys could play it. Good advice if in your budget...buy them both (or 3 or 4 or even more).

Or, if you can, go to a regional get-together in your area and play them.

I own a textured top UTE and an AD-II.
Very different animals. Both are best for what they are.
I really enjoy bouncing back and forth between them.
.
I very much agree that the textured top offers the better sound.

So at the risk of sounding uninformed (which I obviously am) what do CVT and SMT stand for? Is SMT a smooth top??

I am not sure exactly what the initials mean...
But SMT is a smooth top, and CVT is a smooth Cross-weave patterned top.
I love the look of a CVT.
