How many of you have added a pickup and maybe a preamp? What brand? Did you like it or kill your guitar?

Added lots of them. Standard Ovation products, after-market units, and even homemade gizmos. If you're cuttin' a hole for the preamp, that is sometimes a bit tricky.
Usually pleased with the outcome, too!
