Hello everyone!!

I am a "real" newbie in that not only is this my first post here but I have owned an Ovation for less than ONE day!! The model I got is a Ovation Elite TX Series 1778TX-5 Acoustic/Electric. I noodled on one at a local Guitar Center. I got mine via ebay.

I found this site just a few minutes ago while searching for an answer to my problem. I figured I'd join so I could get some help and hopefully learn a lot of good stuff too.

Here's my problem: I took out the pickup to add a battery. (I actually googled how to do so). When I tried to replace the pickup, it didn't go in straight so now it is not flush. I'm having trouble removing it; it's stuck. I don't want to break it so I'm afraid to keep yanking at it. Because I've never owned a guitar like this, I thought I'd ask for some help before I do something stupid.

Thanks times a million
Bill

Welcome Bill. I'm assuming you're talking about the preamp (the kidney shaped thing that has the battery in it), not the pickup. These can be a little fiddly to put back in.

If the left hand side is sticking up, then you won't do any damage by pulling up on that side - just get a good grip on the left hand side and pull up.

If the right hand side is sticking up, then you should be trying to get the left hand side up - try pressing the release catch while simultaneously putting something thin (but non-scratchy)down in the left hand side.

Once you've got it out, the secret to getting it back in properly is to carefully align the right hand side before putting the left hand side in. Then the left hand side should neatly click into place. Some are tighter than others (I have two VIP preamps and they feel quite different to put in)

Hi Bill... Yup. You were supposed to put the wide right-hand side in First.

If you cannot get the preamp out by following TAFKAR's instructions...

There is another, scarier, option...

Hold the guitar firmly in your lap, Say a little Prayer, then push in on the right side!

Push firmly, while Praying!

If you are Worthy, the preamp will pop right in there.

Then promise never to do that again.

If you can get it out by following TAFKAR's method, disregard this message. :D

Thanks for the quick response!! You guys are awesome.

As it is getting late, and I can make really stupid mistakes when I'm tired, I will try these suggestions tomorrow.

Thanks again
Bill

I forgot to add ... "preamp" ... I didn't think "pickup" was the correct term.

And yes, the right side is sticking out ... ugh ...

If you can't find something non-scratchy that works, then try a thin bread & butter knife that doesn't have a sharp edge - if it makes a mark, the mark will be inside where no one else will ever see it.

Success!! I just got the preamp out. An icing spreader helped. It actually wasn't that difficult. It was more an issue of I didn't want to break my new toy :) Now I need to replace it correctly.

Thanks for the help,

Bill
