I'm looking for a specific model and willing to part with mine to get it. I HATE eBay and this environment seems safe. Afterall, we all love and care for our O's, right? Checked out Al's site and other retailers in the LINKS section but can't find the right model. Where to turn? By the way, I love all of my guitars but I'm downsizing for financial reasons and want to end up with the ONE guitar (Ovation) of my dreams. Thanks.

While visiting local GC's and SA's, I usually try whatever US made Ovations they have. I've been impressed with several models, even the less expensive Balladeer/Elite Specials. Then I stumbled upon an Al DiMeola CL that I couldn't put down. I remember it being black with deep bowl (pretty sure not medium) with cutaway. I could take or leave the cutaway but the deeper the bowl the better for me since I'm about 70/30 A/E, respectively. Probably lots of models out there that have that deep rich tone and full spectrum color and easy on the fingers. Since I can't try 'em all like some folks, I'm happy to have found one model that suits all of my needs... although suggestions of better acoustic sounding Ovations are welcomed. Funny, the one I have was on a recent post. It's the 30th Anniversary Custom Legend with Bear-Claw sitka spruce soundboard. It has the pop-out electronics, don't recall the OP#, but not the single knob as in one of the pics in the other post. I too have experienced the issue about the saddle resting very low in the bridge, even with 2 shims. No buzz on any frets but the string angle could be better for improved sustain. Otherwise, she's in perfect condition. No marks, scratches, dings, etc., everything works, have the original top level case, relief tool, cards, brochures, etc. - all also in perfect condition. I will say that I recently noticed what have been identified by the OFC as brace lines that can be seen if the lighting/reflection is "just so" but can't be felt or seen otherwise. Therefore, saying "perfect" assumes that being able to see these faint lines is normal as I've been advised. Played a little last night and I'm having second thoughts but I'm still faced with budget cuts so have to do something. Sold three acoustics already, seling another three (sentimental value - otherwise crap) and plan to end up with my vintage/collectibles and one Ovation when the smoke clears. Thanks for your info. Looking forward to more.

Also not sure if this model has changed over the years (bowl size, cutaway, etc.). I think the one I played was an '07 model (maybe '06 knowing Sam Ash). Otherwise, just black, DiMeola signature, blah blah blah... That's interesting that Dobro would be selling one of these. Those are 5 of the letters in my last name! Thanks.

I thought all the ADs were deep bowl Custom Legends with those two features added, plus his signature. Since I don't use a cutaway or need to boost my "leads" with a boost button, the 30th is just right for me. I wouldn't consider the AD as a trade up from the 30th. I'm not understanding what you are shopping for, but I often go to guitar stores just to shop.

Second, I love the look of the CL I have but I don't think it sounded as good as the AD I played. The AD neck seemed to be less bulky, I thought it was a deeper bowl (maybe the cutaway threw off my perception) and it just sounded great. To give you an example, the AD I would say sounds better than my Martin HD-28 whereas the 30th Anniversary doesn't sound as good. These could be minute differences and maybe it's all playability that my mind is telling me relates to sound... who knows. I hear what you're saying about not "trading up". Still, I had the feeling that one instument was superior to another, not just different. Guess I'm wrong. Anyway, thanks so much for all your help. I always appreciate the different points of view one gets from this board. It's also nice to know that others suffer from my obsessions.
