Yeah, I'm fickle. No news there. A few weeks ago I picked up a 1994 HD-28 on ebay for $1450. Nice guitar, don't take me wrong. Deep, bright, very much alive. Action was... Martinesque. It was okay but not a guitar that made you get lost in time like some. I advertised it locally for $1700 and a guy inquired about it, I said $1500 and it was gone in an hour. And man, could he play. He was all over that like a cheap suit.

I've got a couple J200s, big boomers, and my Dad's '81 Martin M-38, another boomer, probably the best sounding guitar I own. They don't get used much. Doesn't much matter what I own, I know I'll end up back with the '64 Southern Jumbo with it's comparatively flat frequency response and less volume than the "big boys". But it has the Gibson thump and when that's what you want to hear, there's no substitute.

On a lark I pulled out my Ovation 1983 prototype with it's 3 year old strings.

Wow.

Why a super shallow bowl has that much rich full sound is beyond me. I even compared it to my stock '79 1111 and the '83 smoked it.

The neck is a tish wider than a typical Balladeer and the action is dead flat all the way up the neck. I found myself playing stuff I would not have even tried on other acoustics.

Not sure why it's sat in the case but it won't anymore.

Nothing like a voyage of re-discovery.
