Any tips on removing the pre-amp appreciated. There are (4) screws on the outside cover plate. Is there any attachment inside the guitar or should the pre-amp pull free from the inside once the outside (4) screws are removed?

The outside is screwed to the inside like 2 halves of a sandwich. Remove the 4 screws and it'll fall right out (in). Dave
