So in 1982 Ovation went to the K bar method of attaching the neck. Is this different than a Truss rod? And if so how is is different? And then when did they switch to the Truss rod? Thanking you wise souls out there who know so much more than I on all things Ovation!

Spend some more time in the archives and look for the patent in Ovation Tribute. That's better then asking some old guy with a faulty memory like me. It's more than a truss rod, with an aluminum channel on 3 sides. It made the necks heavy, but very stable.

So after the K-bar most O's had the LX-necks for a few years, but I think the AX models don't have that anymore (as there is no truss rod cover visible in pictures) ... so are the AX models back to K-bar or do they have some altogether different construction?

The new AX models don't have a Truss Rod Cover and they don't have a K-bar.
The just have a standard truss rod that adjusts from the inside.

Kaman Bar necks bolt-on. So I am guessing that they started around 1980-81.
When the Balladeers stopped having TRC's and foil labels.
Around the time of the Rainbow labels.
The "rule of thumb" being that if it doesn't have a TRC, it has a Kaman Bar.
But this does not apply to Celebrity, Ultra, or anything made in Asia.

I hope that helps.
And if I am wrong... Someone correct me Please.
