Anyone ever try using the Artist Series Prestige 330 piezo pickup system by JJBELECTRONICS wired with the small jack for use with the Ovation OP-Pro preamp. I tried it in my Elite LX as an alternative to the Ovation standard (wide) pickup. Must be a bad impedance match as the sound is there but the preamp and power amp volume level has to be set so high that the signal is more hiss and noise than music. The JJB works great when fed directly into the main big amp. Would connecting the 3 piezos in series rather than the standard parallel help. I think series would give three times the voltage and three times the impedance from the transducer. But re-soldering those small wires would be a pita for my old eyes. I don't want to drill another amp jack hole in the guitar. My alternative would be a small switch mounted near the largest of the top's upper holes that would route either the OP-Pro preamp signal or the JJB raw signal to the existing jack plug. I've found that the Elite's normal output and the JJB's raw signal are so near the same size that no volume level change has to be made on the pre-amp or the big amp. Thanks.

Why?

Does your original pickup not work?

If the JJB doesn't work correctly, why would you try to make it work?

If your original Ovation pickup does not work, get another one.

If you cannot do that, get one that works correctly.

I've been told that the regular massive wide Ovation pickup now on the guitar does not capture the true acoustic vibrations of the top. Instead you get mainly the vibrations of the strings. I do find the JJB mounted on the actual wood top between the bridge plate and the amp cord jack gives a different but very pleasing sound. So I'm just after an optional sound when the mode strikes me. Just wondering why it (JJB) is providing a weak sound using the OP-Pro pre-amp.

In parallel the piezo elements will provide more current, less voltage, and lower impedance compared to wired in series. But, piezos are inherently high impedance so I don't think impedance is the problem. One third of a high impedance is still a pretty high impedance. I am a bit curious about what you're experiencing though because I have used a single piezo element on a guitar, a mandolin, and a violin with plenty of signal strength to drive an acoustic amp or PA system. The OpPro input impedance isn't listed on the Ovation site but it should be within a reasonable ballpark of being compatible.
