The high-E string on one of my guitars makes a noticeable "zinging" sound at the bridge. It is definitely NOT a buzzing sound, but a higher pitched "TWANG" effect. I've had this happen before when the string has dug a groove into the bridge material, but that's not the case here. The p-up assembly is brand new.

I've tried two different types of strings and I've moved the contact point slightly north and south on the bridge with no difference.

So what am I missing here?

Patch all you need is a couple more layers of effects. Add a little chorus and some delay, that sound will disappear completely!

Patch...Sounds like you have a sitar on your hands. I would think the string is making a loose contact with something. Is it an electric or accoustic?

Could it be a vibration at the nut being transmitted to the bridge? Does it zing when fretted or only on an open string?

Jim, it's an acoustic.

Flysig, it happens open and fretted.

I've had this happen in the past on other guitars and found it resulted from the fretwire digging into a tight groove in the bridge. But that's not the case with this one.

One thing I haven't tried is dropping another shim under the saddle. The action doesn't seem that low as it is though. Maybe I'll experiment on my lunch hour.

try a different saddle if you have one. Just cuz it's new don't mean it's right

How about break-angle over the bridge?

I wondered the same thing Dan. Not sure how to tell if it's right or wrong though.

I took Damon's suggestion to John Budny since this assembly was brand new. He says he'll send me another one ASAP to see if that fixes it.

It's been said many a time 'round here, but I have to stress again that customer service like we get from New Hartford is becoming far to rare anymore. I sent the man an email, and he jumped right on it. Simple as that!

If you're reading this thread, thanks again John!

I'll let you all know how it works out sometime next week I hope. (I'll be out of town for the weekend.)

Thanks everyone for your imput so far!
