Now... i've always wanted an 8 string acoustic guitar.. think i could make this happen while utilizing the bowl?

Thoughts?

Oh snap! that's rad!

This is more along the lines of what i want to do. That guitar is tuned F# B E A D G B e, has a pretty damn wide neck, bout 2 1/4 at the nut and 3'' at the 12th fret or so.

How hard was it to make yours? I love the soundholes btw.

Hmmmm......image doesn't come up. Anyrate, this "Mondo-Mando" I constructed was a bit time-consuming, since I had to do all the design & fabrication. I got a blank Martin-type 12-string neck, and went to work. I have some construction photos, if you're interested. Probably, start-to-finish, about 2 months. Used an Adamas bracing pattern, under the 4-A spruce top.

http://www.rondomusic.com/intrepidprodual828ebemgnat.html there is a link to my guitar along with neck dimensions and such. But yeah if you're willing, post away! I'd love to see the build anyway. The main thing I am concerned about is of course, the neck. Will the bowl I have be able to handle something as wide and long as that electric in the link? Also what about bracing for the top? Will it need more/heavier stuff with the addition of the two lower strings? (Can you tell how inexperienced I am? Lol)
I think as far as the neck goes though, I'm most concerned about width. A 12 string neck will be too thin I think.. Bah. So much planning to be done!

Probably don't want to clog things up here. I can send the pictures on PM. Look, if you make ANYTHING stout enough, it'll hold. The trick is getting it to hold, AND be resonant. Hope you have access to a well-fitted woodshop!

met a fella recently who makes bouzoukis. That's what I'd do, 8-string with narrowish neck. Goes great with Irish music
