| I'm new here and to owning an Ovation. In September 2012 I bought a newly ordered CC245 right out of the box and it's great! The intonation and the action are perfect. In January, though, I woke up to a crack (in the finish) from the bass side of the bridge in a curve to the outside and then back towards the bottom pin, but not quite. Wasn't there when I went to bed, and I baby this guitar.
Kaman said send it back or take it to your dealer and they'd either fix it or send me a new one, but it might take four months. My dealer said it would take that much time either way, he's seen similar cracks due to the lack of humidity here in Colorado, but wasn't sure of the warranty coverage.
I don't want to take a chance on a different guitar as this one is great, but I didn't buy a new guitar to send it away for four months, either. Looking inside with a mirror, and since it's curved, I believe it's cosmetic, but, its ugly and I don't want it to spread, which it hasn't in a couple of months. The reflection shows a slight angle across the crack, which is weird.
So, does anyone know what kind of finish was used on the 2012 CC245 (Red to Honey Sunburst) . Can I do the super-glue repair to clean up the finish, or will it worsen the problem and screw with the finish?

When a moderator grants you access, they'll transfer this question to the general posts and I'm sure someone who knows will chime in. In the meantime, welcome.
PS, to prevent it happening again, look into humidification for the Winter months. |

That said... I don't know how yours happened.
I have read one or two instances of finish cracks appearing for no apparent reason.
I don't know if you can do a Super-Glue Repair...
I have heard of people doing it... Are you experienced at that kind of repair?
I do think that it is very Nice of Kaman to offer a replacement.
Cuz they won't be able to fix it either... unless they just replace the bowl and the top.
Since this is a Celebrity, they will just give you another one.
But like you say... That would be playing roulette with another guitar through the mail.
Just commenting, since I really have no definitive answers for you. Live with it or replace it.
Eventually a moderator will upgrade your status.
Hopefully someone from the Bottom-Feeders Luthiery Guild can give you advice on the repair.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Ultimately the decision is yours. I would take them up on the offer as it's a new guitar, and at least through the dealer has a warranty. It may take less time then they quote depending on a number of factors, but I'm sure they gave you the "no longer than" number. It's not going to get better on its own, that's for sure. As far as it happening again... well who knows... but of the 100's or 1000's of guitars shipped, it is not a common occurrence. I know if I bought a guitar, I would get it taken care of if they offered.
