Okay, now that I've played it til my fingers hurt - and don't believe in an Adamas to open up too much - I have to say: it's an Adamas. Adamas textured top. To be more precise: It's a 1581 with bass soundholes only. No big difference to my 1581 RI, if theres a difference anyway.

Played them side by side, and only difference I could hear is the "age" of the strings. More or less the same, soundwise. The KK seembs to rumble a little more, seems to be a little bit more percusive, but that could be the strings or the normal difference between handmade guitars of the same model.

So it's only cosmetics. Besides the neckshape and the smooth binding on the KK, which makes it a little bit more comfortable. And electronics, which I don't care about, since I am playing unplugged most of the time.

The KK seems to be a little lighter in weight; could be the electronics.

What would I buy, if I would have none of them? Can't say.

The regular 1581 has the familiar look, walnut fingerboard, epaulettes, the wonderful three-layer-headstock, "carved" binding and as Reissue model the beloved Two-Knob-Preamp, the KK has a more technical look combined with a wonderful rosewood fingerboard, black glossy headstock and a more modern Preamp with on-board tuner. And a built-in head gasket for a three cylinder engine.

Not too easy. What I can say: I love the KK. Great guitar!

Kurt, I'm Kaki's dad and I want to thank you for buying her signature 1581. In may be several months before I see her again, but I promise that I'll get a personalized autograph for you.

She's on tour in France right now, and the closest she'll get to Germany is Rotterdam, I think:

I'd be interested to know what you think about the guitar "plugged in". As you know, the 1581kk has many virtues, but for me its finest quality is the overwhelming volume, range and tone it produces when amplified.

Finest regards---

I missed her concert here in Hamburg the last two times and I do always regret it when I hear her songs, next time she's coming to Germany I must go see her playing live. She's my favorite guitar player - men included - because she's more than just a guitar player, also a very good composer and allround musician. One of my main musical influences, even when it's not easy to hear it in my own songs

BTW, the Adamas 1581 Kaki King signature is surely going to be my next guitar. I did sell my Ovation 2078 Elite just thinking on purchasing the Adamas 1581 next to it. Now there are some good offers for the 1581 here in Germany and I hope I can save the money for one of these before they're gone or get again too expensive for me.

Congrats Koenig Kurt for your new one, really nice on that pics.

Do you know if the bowls are the same material/construction?

Bowl is molded as on the 1581RI. If it is one of the lighter weight bowls as used on the LX-models? I don't know. In the meantime I am quite sure it's the electronics.

Dave, I'd really appreciate your kind offer! Will soon PM you my adress!!!

Kesselhaus, just saw your PM, will answer immediately.

Must be the gold sparkles on the top of the 1581ri that weigh it down

I'd be interested to know that too. I've had an Ovation 2078 Elite TX, and I liked the sound when amplified, but is it the same pre-amp on the 1581-KK? The 2078 is much cheaper than the 1581...

Kurt, I have something from Kaki for you. PM your mailing address (be complete, I'm mailing from the U.S.).

Here's a nice review of a recent show she did in Washington D.C.:

Note his comment about her 1581kk's "exquisite tones".

Finest regards--

Dave, that's awesome news - THANK YOU!!! PM will follow immediately.

And I hope, Kaki will tour in the nearer future through Germany again.

According to *my* Kaki guitar: Doesn't open up with playing, just as I expected from a carbon guitar, but still sounds great, as it did right out of the box! Lowered the strings on this one not to much, so you can strum it hard as well - sounds fine, no matter, what you play. Bossanova as well as Cowboy chords, fingerpicking, classical... What I really like about it in comparison to my other Adamai are the smooth edges. Binding on the regular 158x/168/ looks better, but while playing in a T-Shirt, those smoothened edges are a great "enhancement".

I really love this guitar!

Best regards,

Kurt

Someone in Paris just posted this excellent video from her show there in March. It appears to have been made at the foot of the stage with the sound coming off the stage monitors:

The Kaki has a sharp look and (as I can tell) a fantastic sound. I know the 1581 best of all as my go-to guitar, so WOW. The only setback in the entire package is the fat outline of the epaulettes. I'd love to own a Kaki, but might consider a slight modification of that feature. What's your position? (I realize it's part of the whole "signature" concept... but still...) I could see a thinner design around the "bubbles" made of a light wood.

Didn't see this til now - great as always! And I love her new album since the first time I was listening to it.

Thanks for posting, Dave!

Best regards,

Kurt
