Are the necks on the Adamas models the same as though on the EliteT and/or 2078T? If not, how do they differ? And if they differ from model to model, I'm looking to purchase a new Adamas, so which neck is the thinnest, fastest, and least "V-ish."

Thank you.

The necks on my A's are very similar to my 02C and my Elite. Very fast. Neither with much V.

I much prefer the satin finish and wide nut for these sausages I call fingers, but The 2080 is the most like an electric.

Not sure the 2078T

I think all recent US Ovations/Adamases have the same neck radius, as most of the work is done by a computer controlled machine. In the olde days the necks were hand-carved.

If you are going to ORDER a new Adamas, I think that you can request any neck that you want.
So if you want a thin neck, I am sure that they can arrange that.

I am considering on taking the plunge for a new Adamas, but I'm not ready to go Custom Shop.

Side note: Does anyone besides me like the OP-30 better than the OP-PRO?

Tafkar is correct. From 1994 until the end all the 6 and 12 string USA necks were shaped by machine so the profile would be identical. There may have been a few exceptions that were carved by hand. I know this because I carved and raw sanded over 70,000 necks myself until the machine took over.

A facsimile machine (an old converted gunstock machine aka 'The Richardson') would spit out the rough shape and then we used several specialized die grinders and a lot of hand work to achieve the final result. FYI - I was not an employee of the company, this was all subcontract work we did for many years down the street.

The walnut Adamas necks were a pain in the neck to carve and raw sand. Walnut is extremely dense; I recollect using 3 times the amount of sandpaper to get the job done. It was like grinding iron and created an extra fine and annoying dust. Give me a 5pc maple/mahogany neck anyday.

I'm not sure what goes on these days. OMA says you can request a specific profile which would mean the custom guitars produced today are carved by hand....good question though. I seem to remember reading here on the forum that the majority of machinery and tooling went overseas....but I have no idea really.

As far as I understand, ALL Adamas are Custom Order.
They don't "Mass Produce" them any longer.
Since the Adamas and Legend necks bolt-on... They could just use a slimmest one.
Al DiMeola neck, Kaki King neck, Melissa Etheridge neck.
Whichever has the slimmest profile.
Or whatever they may still have left over from Balladeers, Legends and Elites.

Unless you are buying something already made, the shop is just gonna order it.
(So call Al... He has some stuff that is already made, or he can order it for you)

-edit- Yes. I also like the OP-30 better than the OP-Pro.

My 2007 Collectors Ovation had a very similar profile as my Adamas 2080. My daughters' T guitars (1778T and 2078T) have an ever so slightly slimmer feel. My 6778LX from 2004 or 2005 (can't remember) has a slight V to it. It is the only O or A I've played with that shape. Bottom line is I don't think you'll find a big difference in any of the guitars.

The best thing to do is call Al and ask him what the factory can do for you.

That's interesting; I suppose they could set the machine up to run different profiles for different models...

Never the less, when hand carving was the way there was only one profile each for 6 string, 12 string and classic. I still have the profile gauges whereby we would check our work on 3 locations on the neck. The carver would do their best to achieve this shape within the range of acceptable tolerance.

Some players aren't fussy about the profile; for others it can be a deal breaker.

the pre-Kaman bar necks are the slimmest and fastest in my opinion. Unfortunately, they didn't have cutaways back then.

I wonder if you can do a custom order with a pre-KB neck??? Or if you'd have to give 'em a neck and let them build a bowl onto it.
