I've just lifted the saddle on my 2007 collectors with a view to lowering the action.
There are three shims (all the same size)
Is this the standard setup ? Or is shimming dependant on model or each guitar? I recall reading a post here mentioning removing 2 shims to lower the action on this model, somewhere else I recall seeing different sized/colored and tapered shims.

Would it be normal or expected to remove all 3 shims ?
Cheers

Out of the box they come set up a bit high and three shimms (two thick, one thin) is the norm from what I've seen.

Having bought a few older ones on Ebay and such it is surprising what you'll find stuffed under the saddle.

I recently took in a '79 white 1111 and the saddle's bottom was convex. They had what looked like wadded up yarn or string under the bass side.

Side note, I put a set of Martin SP's on it. They were free from Martin... apparently I did an online survey or something. I'm not crazy about them. Lots of brightness with no thump.

The action on my '06 Elite was low enough that the strings slapped the upper frets when fingerpicking. There was 1 shim under the bridge, but there also happened to be 1 extra shim in the case. I added it under the saddle and that was just enough to raise the action comfortably for me. I'm pretty sure both those shims are the same thickness. You'll also find a number of opinions (from people mith a lot more experience than me) if you search the archives.

Thanks all great info, sounds like I'm at the usual starting point with 3 shims, now to get it setup.
