To start off, it stinks that its no working. and im a noob here but not to electronics, or forums, or guitars. Read through some others users posts and see that no one else has SEEMED to have the same problem. No sound through pre-amp. Touch buttons and nothing seems to work. Changed out batteries, still no resolution. All that happens is the tune ^ and Down arrows come on, no letters and no sound and the arrows dont come on when you hit a string, they just alternate ^ and down whenever. I brought it to a "Service Center" that wants to charge 160 for labor and parts, but i have no idea what the new pre-amp is. Kind of bought the guitar for its nicer pre-amp but also for the quality of ovations. So wheres the answer? The shop guy of course claims the pre-amp is gone, but is it actually... Batteries were tested with a multimeter before hand. The electronics inside the ovation that receive the pre-amp cant be tested properly as id have no idea where to start. What could be the source of the issue? Is it worth 160? or just go no pre-amp. Have plenty of high end mics to record it with, just would like the on-the-fly option for tuning and amping (without using mic).

Might not be the preamp. Put your location in, because there may be someone who lives near you who can swap over the preamps. I'm guessing the connection between the pickup and the preamp is compromised. Pull out the preamp, loosen the two screws inside until the little wings (which you won't be able to see) are moving around inside the guitar and you should be able to remove the can which supports the preamp. Then have a look to see if anything has become disconnected.

The guitar is already at the shop where they guy claims he switched out the preamps. Thatd make sense to me that itd be between the pickup and the preamp. No sound + no tuning would make sense for no pickup. But wouldnt the pre-amp still function in some manner beyond just up and down arrows if it ISNT the preamp itself? Does Ovation warranty support the pre-amps or pickups?

If you're the original owner, then it would be covered under warranty. The up and down arrows may be the tuner trying to find a signal to tune on, but not finding one.
