Can the newer OP-4BT be swapped into a guitar that currently has an op-30 preamp? One potential issue, the OP30 has the battery underneath, and it looks like the OP-4BT has a separate door for the battery. I'm not into cutting plastic, not sure what options there may be.Another alternative, is there an inexpensive source for an Op-30 preamps? The tuner is not responding or lighting up, though the rest of the preamp works for audio.

Snark.

More accurate than the tuner on my OP-Pro or Studio. On par with the Optima, but much easier to read.

The OP4BT is not a drop-in... It just looks that way.
There is actually a large block behind what you see... Much like an OP-24 or OP-24+.

If your guitar has an OP-30, you can find another one on eBay...
but I don't know about how cheap you can find them.
You could just keep you eye out for a whole iDea kit or an OP-Pro kit.

Meanwhile, the Snark idea sounds like a good one.

Oh, is the Ovation OP-PRO a drop in replacement for the OP-30?

Oh, is the Ovation OP-PRO a drop in replacement for the OP-30?

Not really, only if you get an OP-Pro CAN!
The OP-30 has different contact points. Six (I believe) in a staggered pattern.
The OP-Pro has eight in a block.
But if you get an OP-Pro can with the preamp, they will fit in the HOLE.

Y'see...
When they advertise that the iDea was a "Drop-in replacement" for the OP-20, 30, 40, 50, and 11...
They meant that it would fit in the Hole in the side of the guitar without extra surgery.
And if you want to upgrade to the Pro series, they will drop in the hole in the side of your guitar.

So, if you find an OP-Pro with a can it will fit in the hole and you just plug-in the pickup and the output jack.

Another option is to look for a used guitar with the preamp you want. Sometimes you can find a great deal especially on a beat guitar. Swap out the preamps and resell the other guitar with disclosure of the nonworking tuner. You might end up even on the $.

Or call Alpep. He can get you a factory new OpPro or whatever version you want. His pricing is always the best you'll find anywhere. The factory kits come with the new can and the output jack assembly, at least the kits I've bought have come that way. An OpPro Studio and an iDea.

Swapping cans is super super easy. All you need is a phillips screwdriver and about 3 minutes. If you get to that point just ask here and we'll give you the how-to.
