I want to tread softly here but something about soliciting funds for an investment opportunity here on the OFC seems, well, kinda not right.
I understand who runs the show here.
And I'm sure the opportunity is offered only in the best interest of the potential investors benefit.
.
Over the years Al has shown the restraint and good taste to keep his business dealings behind the curtain.
Miles... pretty much everyones email address is on file. It may take more time and effort but don't you think you could have done this another way?

Apparently I missed out on the opportunity. The only solicitations in my mailbox today were from offshore pharmacies.

Must be one huge convention out there somewhere because almost every day I get emails from at least a half dozen women with the subjet "My husband is out of town".

Ya know... Brad... you are correct. I didn't even think about it. I've been working on this for nearly a year and my thought was strictly "Hey... maybe some folks in the OFC that are doing ok would like the opportunity to make a few bucks and help me out in the process." I will contact Al and see what he sais. For the record, no one has been emailed, I just posted it again as an offering an opportunity more than anything else and it's music related.

Also to be clear, and I may find a better way to write it if I can keep the post up, is that this is an investment. as in whomever would take part would get 100%-plus-interest return. Actually it's more like a loan I guess, but it's not treated that way.

I am going to lock this thread until I talk to Al because if it shouldn't be here, than I don't need multiple threads about it.

Ok, I spoke with Al. I updated the text to reflect a little more of the detail.

The bottom line for posting here is that I want to open this opportunity to people I know and who know me before a bunch of total strangers. I didn't want to put myself in the position of someone from the OFC family coming back to me later with "hey... why didn't you ask me?" because this is a very common, low/no risk type thing as I updated in the other post.

If it turns out the membership at large doesn't like it... I guess I'll close it like anything else. But based on the actual details behind the post that I discussed with Al, it will stay for now.

Thanks for alerting me in the first place. It led to a better clarification.

Here is a link to the original post we are talking about because it only comes up when someone uses the full forums view.

No different from posting "Would you like to Buy my Guitar"
or "Taking orders for a Calendar"
or "Anyone interested in arranging a Gathering"

Miles and I talked about this a little when we met in Naniamo a few weeks back. (No screen doors up here, it's safer that way.) Seems like a good basic idea, if I was making good money right now I'd be in just for the chance to abuse the relationship later.

As far as subjects of conversation and various opinions on the validity of the conversation and subject.....I've always thought open airings of differences was a good thing and a flavour that's been missing here for a little while. Have we learned NOTHing from situation comedy?.....words unspoken enflame the heart and imagination. In other words, both Miles offer and Brads querry on its relavence/propriety are good things.

More ways of bringing music to life = good thing.

Where are the hookers? Oh! As far as I'm concerned Mr. O can post anything he wants. I wish I had the dough. I'd be right there.

So I went back and reread the original post, which I had quickly scanned when it was current, and my personal opinion is ther doesn't seem to be anything offensive there. Miles seems to be very circumspect in his request, and if I were a person of liquidity I would be inclined to look into his proposal. I can understand that this solicitation may have been received poorly, given the status (and it's consequent influence) Miles enjoys within this community, but I would also say it appears that status is earned over years of relationships and involvement with the community. While his suggestion is one that requires a significant involvement, I agree with OMA; basically Miles' post is no different than any other financial offering on this site.

Actually, Miles could spend 6 days PMing every member of the forum, and I think that is something I would not be comfortable with, while the public posting seems much more innocuous; the reader has the freedom to just scan through the public post and pas it by, while a personal contact requires a response, and almost demands a decision.

I could actually care less about the whole thing, but I do wonder whether I would be allowed a thread advertising investment opportunities in MY recording studio??? The again, it IS Miles's forum.
Chances are if I owned this forum, I would be advertising all kinds of personal things and wouldn't allow ANY of you losers to post a dang thing.

This board gets its panties in a wad about the weirdest things...but on the other hand, we actually have folks that want to know about or need help with their Ovations and they have to wait until an Admin allows them to (re) post their question in the Forum to get a forum response... Once again, IMO, these are the folks that this board should be all jacked up to want to help...I understand the majority of them probably won't be around to purchase the next calendar, but why can't a new poster be confined to the Welcome forum, until approved, but the rest of the members be allowed to address their concern, if they can? Just askin...If Brad, Miles and OMA can take a hit...what the heck...spread it around.

Jay - Good observation. The greeters in the Welcome Section are volunteers. They are folks with enough knowledge of the brand to answer most basic questions and enough history with this forum to recognize potential problems, and a commitment to be there. Few if any people wait longer than 24 hours to get access if they want it. The vast majority of the thousands who visit this site do so in search of info and seem to be satisfied to not participate. Of the few of those that do participate, the vast majority just need a quick answer to a question and have no desire to participate further. Of that small number, there are some that like to participate in forums and will stick around.

As far as solicitation goes... while I would have liked Brad to contact me directly, it's fine that he posted it as that is what would have happened no matter who made the original post. And like all other similar situations Al and I discussed it. Lets not forget all of the open solicitations for funds and instruments in the name of charity of which the recipients were never heard from again.

I will un-Sticky the original post in a few days just because if someone has extra capital for investment, they will have probably seen it by then and chose to either participate or not. After that I will give the opportunity to others elsewhere.
